Guest guest
Have you tried any natural remedies yet? Meds do help some of our kids with more extreme anxiety issues but I would highly recommend trying natural and or homeopathic avenues before trying any meds that can have serious side affects. Do you have a DAN Dr? A good DAN Dr. can help you with this. My DAN Dr. is Dr. Rossignal in Melbourne, but I have heard wonderful things about Dr. Udell in the Weston area if Melbourne is too far for you to travel. There are many natural and homeopathic remedies for anxiety that I would try before going to anti psychotic meds. Just my 2 cents worth. medication Has anyone had any luck or information to share regarding medications to treat anxiety for 9 yr. old w Aut. Guest guest
I agree, Luceana Leo is a DAN too who is very knowledgeable and sweet. Shes in Miami. She has experience with these issues, but of course it is your decision. Ivr had my share of these issues with my son so I do know where you are coming from. Um not sure of Luceanas contact info but she is on this list. Sent from my Samsung Epicâ„¢ 4G wrote: >Have you tried any natural remedies yet? Guest guest
We use GABA and have had great success with it. Additionally, we have used oxytocin in the past but we did not have as much success with it as GABA. Check with your DAN Dr. before starting anything new, even natural supplements should be taken under the careful watch of a qualified Dr. medication Has anyone had any luck or information to share regarding medications to treat anxiety for 9 yr. old w Aut. Guest guest
Hi,While I am a firm believer in anti-psychotic meds when necessary, I'm not thinking that anxiety alone would merit heavy hitting drugs like the ones you mentioned. I would suggest an appointment with a medical doctor or psychiatrist who has experience prescribing drugs for ASD kids. Guest guest
I've taken my boys to three different child psychiatrists and they all want to put both my boys on anti-psychotics. One is aggressive and the other is passive (with severe anxiety). When I questioned these psychiatrists, they all said that antipsychotics are the most common med for treating ASD kids. Kind of one size fits all. It doesn't seem right, and obviously is not working for my boys. We're in Volusia county. Does anyone have suggestions for a good doctor or psychiatrist in this area? Guest guest
I think the alternative choices depends on each individual child and their circumstances, so that's hard to say. But you can have a conversation with the doctor about it and I'm sure he'll explain to you what he looks at so he know what to treat with. Guest guest
Medicines and 'effective' alternative choices are tricky. What works for one child may not work for the other. Guest guest
Many psychiatrists are quick to give our children antipsychotic drugs. My son and family went thru a year and a half of hell. I beg the DR. to take him off and he told me how he needed these meds. . Every time my son would get aggressive he would add more meds. He was getting very bad head aches.SO he kept giving him more meds. My son ended up in a mental hospital for 10 days. When he came out there was NO change.. I had him tested for seizures, twice.Nothing showed up. Long story short. He was so aggressive I ended up in the emergency room with stitches in my hand. My sons head went into the car window.(his head was hurting him so badly). Next day changed Dr. and went to a neurologist. Changed meds, I GOT MY HAPPY go lucky 18 year old son back!!!!!!
