Guest guest
Next week we are having work done on our house & the contractor is going to be doing a lot of painting inside. I know that paint fumes are not good for a diseased liver, but I don't know how far I should go to avoid them. Wear a mask while they are painting? Stay out of the house while they are painting? Stay out of the house (including not sleeping there at night) until all the painting is finished? I am waiting for an answer from my dr's office, but I thought I would post here to see if you all have any advice. Thanks! Guest guest
Look for paint with a " Zero VOC " (zero volatile organic compounds/chemicals), which should be OK for you. This will most likely be ONLY latex paints. See http://www.homeenv.com/paint_fumes.htm for details. Paint fumes are not good for ANY liver (or lungs, etc.), but a healthy liver can regenerate if there's not too much damage. Unless you use a mask that can filter VOCs (usually a carbon-type filter), it won't help.
