Guest guest
Nina We banked our son's cord just in case my daughter relapsed as she had leukemia at the time. I thoroughly researched alot of the banks and the storage of the units is the most important thing. When the cord blood is stored improperly the cell's may not be viable. Unfortunately, this has happened! There are 2 very reputable cord banks one is at NY Cord Blood Center (that is where we chose to store ours) and the other is at Duke University in NC. When looking at the different centers you may want to consider the type of back up system they have for power failure, viability rates, etc...The most expensive center may not have the best equipment. Good luck, See what's new at AOL.com and Make AOL Your Homepage.
Guest guest
Hi, there - a question for all you science-types out there. We are expecting another child soon (knock wood!). Does it make sense for us to " bank " the kid's cord blood, assuming that my husband will at some point need a liver transplant? I'm inclined to just donate it to one of those public facilities if I can figure out how to make that happen, but if it might really be helpful down the road maybe I should suck up the what seems like ridiculously high cost and do one of those private cord blood banks? Any thoughts, anyone? Thanks, Nina in Philly
Guest guest
Not a science type and way to old…..but I’d pay the cost and keep it in the family.
