Hi !

Can it be this:

terbinafine, Lamisil

Generic Name: terbinafine

Brand Name: Lamisil

Drug Class And Mechanism: Terbinafine is an antifungal agent that is taken

by mouth or applied to the skin.

I have been trying this really neat program that I downloaded the other day

I typed in your s/l exactly like you spelled it, and this program gave me

the med. I gave you above. www.gurunet.com is where I got this program from

Jaimy sent it through the list last week I think. It seems really neat so

far, but I haven't had a whole lot of time to get familiar with it yet.

Best of luck!

Though we all learn a lot from each other, when it comes to medication, we

really can not generalize other people's experiences to our own. Every one of

our kids will respond differently to chemicals-and I am talking about natural

and pharmaceutical. And to top this off, these chemicals don't always work

consistently with the person as well. You can find something that works and in a

few months, it doesn't. Very frustrating.

It is a trial and error. That said, if you give your child something and he or

she has a horrible reaction-behavior changes for the worse-no doubt that drug or

chemical needs to be discontinued either immediately or as a weening off process

(whatever the dr. recommends). But you can't generalize an experience of a

certain drug and then say the rest will cause the same reaction.

I agree that we should always try the natural alternatives first including

behavioral therapy. But if we exhaust those options and the behavior of the

person is entirely out of hand, it makes sense to try a pharmaceutical option

with a doctor that has been highly recommended by someone you know or from this

list.

I really understand the horror of having to give your child a medication (or in

some cases, several medications). And I know the anguish of having a child who

has such severe behaviors that he is at-risk of causing himself and others a

potentially fatal injury. We always have to weigh the benefits vs risk.

So if you are in the position of having to figure out whether or not to try a

medication with your child, spend some time questioning parents who have been in

your shoes, and are now experiencing success with medications as well as those

who have not. That way, you will have the support in both directions: dealing

with severe behaviors and having to " cross the line " and try medications.

There is a lack of substancial data to justify those natural supplements. The meds are the best thing to try, but you have to go to the right psychiatrist or neurologist to find the right treatment plan. Just keep trying many different drugs until you find the one that works.

Do not reply on the Dan doctors to prescribe medication, since they lack the experience of a psychiatrist or neurologist. The Dan Doctors do not typically accept insurance which is another drawback to their practice. Everytime I went to a dan doctor, I ended up paying a minimun of 250.00 dollars. They required me to bring my child in everytime I needed a script(every 3 months), which a psychiatrist or neurologist does not expect.

Unless you want to experiment with getting metals out of your child's system, a Dan doctor is not recommended. You will end up paying alot of money for useless blood tests that they mark up which is why they never use Quest of LabCorp.

Hi! I have tried many different natural supplements for my son's aggression until one worked. (The same way we try with meds) I've tried several until I found one that works. The name of the supplement us : made by NOW, GABA Natural Calming Effect 100% pure powder. Promotes relaxation and eases nervous tension. 6oz, A dietary supplement vegetarian product. I paid $17.99. My son has been on it for three weeks and we have seen positive results. I realize we cannot avoid meds but my son is nine, and I want to keep him off medication for as long as I possibly can. Thanks,

There is a lack of substantial data to justify many of the meds our kids are on. Many of the meds that most mainstream Dr.'s are filling our kids with have not been designed or tested on children so I would take my chances on natural remedies and supplements before I would jump into pharmaceuticals where the side effects can be deadly.

Not all DAN dr.'s are created equally and my Dan Dr. uses tests from Quest and Lab Corp. Additionally, he does not require an office visit for new scripts. I think it is dangerous to lump all DAN Dr.s into one category. Every Neurologist I took my son too was way too quick to pull out the prescription pad. Be very careful who you take your medical advice from and do your own research and due diligence before starting any new supplement or med.

GABA works well with our son as well in combination with other amino acids like Taurine.

Understanding what choices parents need to make for their child with autism is not so cut and dry. There is no question that using the medication of choice for autism or autistic behaviors brings up the question of the serious side effects, BUT we need to look at what we are addressing with medication? Medication stops symptoms or at least that is what it is supposed to do provided it is the right medication. However, it does nothing to address biomedical causes which ultimately may help change abnormal biochemistry in your child so they can be on some road to recovery. What we don't know with medication is what the "band aid" effect is actually doing to our children over a long period of time. So choosing to medicate a young child does carry a lot of risks. On the other hand, yes there are DAN physicians out there...some good and some not so good, but there are also other physicians who are not DAN and who have alternative choices to medication that can be explored. Plus there are countless therapies which have also been very helpful for our children and can impact their sensory system and behaviors in a positive way. This choice becomes somewhat of a journey to embark on....it's the whole picture....changing the diet, using natural supplements to change biochemistry, doing a variety of therapies that can improve immune functioning, sensory functioning, nervous system functioning and neurological functioning, as well as appropriate behavioral programs in place...IT'S THE WHOLE APPROACH and nothing stands alone...it' all connected. It's a lifestyle change and choices for your child.....this is the approach when you use supplements and nutrition.

However, in some circumstances medication is absolutely necessary. Seizures can be life threatening. Behaviors can be destructive. For the parents who choose to go a more natural route, if they wait for substantial data...our kids will miss the boat. Sometimes the proof is in the pudding. Doctor do NOT have all the answers. You are your child's best physician...because you live day in and day out with autism. Your gut feeling does count. Find the right medical practitioner to meet your child's needs in the moment. Shop around. There are many stages...you might have many professionals who can meet your child's needs at different stages. Obviously not all parents are able to have an eclectic approach which heavily impacts you and your family's life emotionally and financially. This means we are on a journey....it depends on what is appropriate and good for you and your family and your particular circumstances. But no matter what, SAFETY comes first. If you are choosing medication to stops symptoms, then be savvy about what goes into your child's body. Research so you know what you feel is best for your child. There are many avenues out there and you are your child's voice and you make the choices of what impacts him or her.

The autism arena today is an amazing variety of incredible treatment possibilities for our children. It's one finger touch away on the computer. Back in the early nineties there was virtually nothing...ABA was in it's incipient stages and neurologists handed out a basket full of meds like candy to mask symptoms and hoped for the best and there were no computers. Parent had support groups in each others homes. If you wanted to know about autism you needed to fly somewhere to a conference in the US. What you were told was maybe in 15 or 20 years the experts would know something. Doctors had no clue what to do with our kids. People in public called us horrible parents for not disciplining our children. Even though there are lots of mistakes now and way too much money flying around for medical professionals to capitalize on, there are so many more choices and children are diagnosed early and given early intervention. All of this makes the diagnosis of autism so much more hopeful and positive for this generation. We were never given the luxury of such opportunities for our children. So we should all be thankful for choices and every family needs to comfortable with what they are doing to meet their own circumstances. And it's good we can share to help each other in our choices because it's a tough road when you are on a journey.
