Guest guest
's last colonoscopy looked "lovely" - no visible signs of pancolitis. Yet every biopsy showed microscopic signs of colitis. And the 17 year old's response to the GI was: He would happily continue Asacol in order to avoid any future episodes requiring Prednisone! Side effects of the typical drugs (for most people) are very mild to nonexistant. When I was first diagnosed with UC (1977), my Dr. said I'd have to take meds for the rest of my life. At 26 (and quasi-immortal), I didn't believe it - so far, he's been right.I did stop a couple of time in the early days with flares occurring within a week to a couple of months at best. The underlying cause is still there even though the symptoms aren't.I really don't even think about taking sulfasalazine anymore - it's automatic. I doubt if I miss even one dose a month (out of ~120 tablets/month). I've been asymptomatic (for UC) for all but a couple of months of the early years for nearly 30 years now.It may be possible for you, but the statistics are not promising.Arne---- <peterf8 (AT) yahoo (DOT) com> wrote: =============...I have an upcoming appointment with my hepatologist/gastroenterologist in about 2 weeks and I'd like to see about either discontinuing my meds for the UC or perhaps finding some alternatives as I've been asymptomatic for UC for quite some time.
