Hi:

The bacteria is Gardnerella. Gardnerella live in low numbers in the vagina. As long as the good bacteria (lactobacilli) outnumber the Gardnerella it's OK. It's when something changes the balance of good and bad bacteria that you (I) get BV. BV is an imbalance of the bacteria that live in the vagina.

The Gardnerella gets killed from the antibiotics (I always go for a re culture), but it always comes back. I normally don't have a lot if any good bacteria in my vagina. Don't know why. I'm peri menopausal, so maybe that's it. But, I am going to ask my doctor if the bacteria can become resistant. I think it's a good question.

Sherri--

How much time have you been having between BV attacks? Are you prone

to yeast infections, too? This is only the 2nd time I've ever had BV,

well I guess now the third since it came back a week after being treated!

I got my new flagyl Rx filled today, but I'm so scared of taking it. I

don't want to create a yeast issue!
