Standard Treatment:

Metronidazole (Flagyl) - 500mg orally twice a day for 7 days

Metronidazole gel (0.75%) (MetroGel) - 5g intravaginally twice a day for 5 days

Clindamycin - 300mg orally twice a day for 7 days

Clindamycin cream (2%) - 5g intravaginally at bedtime for 7 days.

Alternative Treatment:

Metronidazole - single 2g dose

This book was written in 2002. There are other options now that are not in here. Clindesse is a Clindamycin intravaginal cream that you use at bedtime - once. Tindamax is an antibiotic that you take 2 twice a day for 5 days.

You're welcome. Just throwing this out too........some men have sperm that kills off the good bacteria so the bad grows. Don't know if you have sex but................it's a thought.

The book does say for recurrences of BV that you can use a longer treatment period - 10-14 days instead of 7. I used Flagyl several times for 14 days. Once I used it for 14 days and then took it 3 times a week for months. I did not get BV during that time, but my stomach was a mess from all the antibiotics. The book also says some people find Replens helpful, but you get wooly vaginal secretions from it (That sounds like fun!, Like we don't have enough problems)
