Guest guest
You know, I have never been in a catastrophic accident or anything like that. I was an auto claims adjuster and saw a lot of cars that had been mangled beyond all repair, and a few folks who were significantly hurt, but never myself. Anyhow, we noticed about a year or so before my dx of fibro that if I was a passenger in the vehicle, I would react way out of proportion, as if I had been in a catastrophic accident. The " oh crap " strap was my friend if you get my drift, even when there was no reason at all for it to occur. The doctor dx'd me with anxiety and put me on xanax at first, but that didn't work so they switched me to klonipin, which I take 2x a day and that seems to be helping. I am also on zoloft for my glucose intolerance which, believe it or not, is having the nice side effect of keeping my mood at an even keel. I can be a passenger again, although I do sometimes go for the strap when my 22 yo is driving. I sincerely feel for anyone who goes through this. I would suggest strongly that you talk to your doctor about your reaction(s) when in a vehicle to see if a low dose anti-anxiety med would help. This stupid fibro beast often makes us unwilling prisoners of our own beds or recliners on super flare up days; we shouldn't let it (the anxiety) take away what's left of our freedom by not letting us get into a vehicle......
