Guest guest
Hello, Darla. I also am in Texas. I was actually just in San the day you sent this. I see my doctor up there. I live 2 hours south west of you in a little town called Carrizo Springs. Welcome to the group. Sorry I haven't greeted you sooner but between the doctor and shopping, kids and back pain been out. I'm 35, until Monday, married for 16 years with two kids. Nic is 17 and has fibro and Maggie is 15. I also have two cats and a dog. I come from a large family. 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Only one other sister lives near me in Round Rock and she moved there about 2 years ago. My father is gone but my mother and siblings all live out in California. Welcome to the group. Guest guest
Hi, Tammi, I live in the Dallas area. I'd like to know more about Nic. My daughter is recognizing fibro issues in other friends now that she understands what it is, and they aren't diagnosed, but one of them is a guy. I'm sure she would like to know about how this plays out in Nic especially since they are so close in age. At 03:31 PM 2/13/2008, you wrote: >Hello, Darla. I also am in Texas. Guest guest
Hello, . Sorry I'm so long getting back to you. I always seem to miss two days on the posts. Ugh!!! Anyway, Nic as I said is 17 and a senior in high school. He's looking to go to A & M in the fall. Nic has a mild form of fibro. He always likes to say that he isn't really dxed with fibro but he is 17 and it tends to be a female dominated disorder so of course it's NOT him. He does really well with fibro. He was 12 when he first developed signs. He was dxed about two years ago. Nic is very active and we believe for him that is helping. The doctor has also encouraged it and the only restriction given is to rest when his body tells him to, not to push too hard. Right now Nic is on very little medication. He tries really hard to stay off as much as he can. He knows that though the meds can help it's best as a teen to avoid long term use for now. Nic lives a crazy schedule and most of his peers are amazed to learn he has a chronic pain condition. Nic is in cross country, JROTC, track, tennis, cheerleading, UIL, Ballet Folklorico, and marching band. He's also a member of the National Honor society. I think in teens the hardest thing to cope with is the depression that can go with any chronic condition. Nic is going to be seeing someone soon for that and like all teens is NOT thrilled by that. I think your daughter is forunate that she can be with others that also have similar medical concerns. Nic, because of where we live, isn't as lucky. Most here can't and/or will not believe there is anything wrong with him but if there is it has got to be mental. It is so hard to see him go through this. I'm sure that you can understand how all of that feels too. You want better and more for them. Nic is a great encouragement to me. I know not all suffer the same with fibro but some of us can lead lives that are near " normal. " If you have any more questions or if you need more specific info feel free to contact me. I do check my mail at least every other day so it may be a day or so before I get back to you but I will. Tammi
