Dear CARD Families and Friends:There have been some important changes at CARD this summer and some more coming our way in the near future.  In addition to our 20.22 percent budget cuts which you all already know about, we thought we would send you this brief update of some staff comings and goings.

Goings:Natalee Thornburgh, our Manager of Special Events, resigned this summer because her family moved out of Florida.  Natalee is a great friend of CARD and the South Florida autism community and we hope that she finds her way back to Florida in the future!

Schoultz and Landoll left us this summer because our IES-funded preschool treatment comparison project ended.  We wish them well in their new lives in Colorado and land.Lizette , our Transition Specialist, has informed her that her last day at CARD will be September 5th.  Lizette has been a strong and dedicated employee since September 2006 and we are sad that she is leaving us, but we wish her well in her new position.

Dr. Anibal Gutierrez, now a Research Assistant Professor at UM, as well as CARD's Coordinator of Behavioral Services, has accepted a position as Assistant Professor at FIU.  He will begin his new job on December 30, 2011.  Anibal has been an exemplary clinician, researcher and colleague who will be missed terribly.   We are determined to maintain a professional relationship with Dr. Gutierrez and strengthen CARD's partnership with FIU's behavior analysis training program so stay alert for future announcements regarding new partnerships and programs.

Comings:Maricarmen Saleta, who worked for CARD as a full-time Educational Support Specialist several years ago and then more recently as a temporary staff member filling in for staff on maternity leave, will be rejoining the CARD staff as a full-time Educational Support Specialist once again on September 1st.

In order to expand our Adult/Transition Services Division, CARD will be hiring TWO new Transition Specialists, one who will serve Broward County and one who will serve Miami-Dade and Monroe Counties.  Both will work under the supervision of our Coordinator of Transition and Adult Services, Deborah Chin, and both will be based at our NSU-North Miami Beach Transition and Adult Services Center.

Promotions: Costa, formerly our Manager of Educational Support Services, has assumed the position of Manager of Special Events and Projects. will now oversee all special events, fundraisers, and projects for CARD, including Tropical Nights, Autumn Moonlight, the DMF WalkAbout Autism, Mobile Family Clinic events, resource fairs, conferences, and many more.  's clinical cases will be reassigned to other clinicians on staff.  If you have any questions about this, please contact our secretary at .

Thank you,

Dr. Alessandri
