Guest guest
I have been dealing with my vulvodynia for almost two years now (though I have always had pain related to intercourse). The day-to-day burning sensations have almost gone away thanks to a twice weekly application of estrogen cream (just topically, not inserted). I tried physical therapy about a year ago. The nearest PT to me was Em Squires in Oakland. I liked her OK, but wasn't sure if I was really seeing any progress after about six sessions. I gave up on the PT but always meant to try again with someone else. My doctor, Joanna Badger at Stanford, has recommended I try either PT Fraser in Los Altos or go see Dr. Jerome Weiss in San Francisco. Does anyone have thoughts between the two? I know Fraser would do physical therapy obviously, but what type of treatment/guidance would Jermone Weiss typically give me? Also, does anyone know what their costs are? Just hoping to find the right person this time. I have heard positive things about both of them.
Guest guest
Just curious. When you first started the estogen did it burn or make you burn more. If it did how soon did it stop making the burn worse? Guest guest
Please go to the site www.pelvicpainmatters.com It is a blog by a girl who is seeing a great therapist in LA. But maybe Oakland isn't near LA? Is it near San Fran? Well if that's the case, then it's a no brainer. Skip Dr Weiss and go see the girls at www.pelvicpainrehab.com They are the best and used to work with Dr. Weiss and are a darned site cheaper. And they will recommend a dr for you, Dr. Weiss or otherwise. Oh and I'd join the group happypelvis as it is PT oriented and you will get lots of helpful advice. love, Molly Well, thanks to Dr. Weiss and Prendergast and a lot of self PT> To: VulvarDisorders Sent: Thursday, October 23, 2008 10:54:20 PMSubject: Ready to try PT again I have been dealing with my vulvodynia for almost two years now (though I have always had pain related to intercourse) . Guest guest
>yes, estrogen will burn more the first week but hang in there..it is worth it..also happens if you quit using it for a couple of days and then restart it!
Guest guest
The estrogen cream shouldn't necessarily burn! It never has for me. If you are having burning, you may be sensitive to the other ingredients and you can have it compounded in a neutral base. I get mine compounded in emu oil and it feels great. Also, PT will usually take much more than 6 sessions to see significant changes - so stick with it, it's worth it! I went weekly for EIGHT MONTHS before I was able to have intercourse again - but totally worth it! =) Melinda Melinda
Guest guest
Lea As you stated Fraser does PT, she does external and internal work. I'm currently seeing and her costs are $165 per visit and she is VERY booked up, so I suggest if you choose to see her, you call right away. In case you decide to go to her, her phone # is . I've heard of Dr.Weiss but I don't know much about him, but I do know he doesn't do PT, so being that you have pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD) you need to address that first and foremost. Have you ever tried trigger point injections? Or the lidocaine cotton ball treatment? I use a pea size of estradiol compunded in emu oil in the 6 o' clock area every morning after I get out of the shower, it does seems to help. If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me off the group. ~~ Ready to try PT again I have been dealing with my vulvodynia for almost two years now (though I have always had pain related to intercourse). Guest guest
Dr. Weiss has a staff of PTs. He was the first doctor to believe in PT. He was trained by Rhonda Kotarinos. and Liz from www.pelvicpainrehab.com used to work with him. When I saw Dr. Weiss he actually spent quite a bit of time doing PT on me himself. If you read his articles they champion PT. I do suggest you read his articles, they are great. Hopefully, they are in the files section of this group. If not, they are definitely in the files section of happypelvis. love, Molly well, thanks to Dr. Weiss and STephanie Prendergast and lots of at home PT To: VulvarDisorders Sent: Friday, October 24, 2008 4:01:40 PMSubject: Re: Ready to try PT again LeaAs you stated Fraser does PT, she does external and internal work. Guest guest
Out of all the anti-fungal/steroid creams/ointments I was prescribed, the only thing that relieve the burning was the estrogen. I know a lot of ladies with vulvodynia have preferred Estrace, though my doctor prescribed Premarin. I haven't tried Estrace, but I guess if the Premarin is working, why question a " good " thing. Anyway, to answer your question, I did not experience more burning after using the estrogen. At first my regular gynecologist prescribed it just as a temporary relief ... I used it every day for one week, every other day for the second week and then just three times a week for the third week. And that was it. I stopped because that's what she prescribed. But when I went to see the specialist at Stanford, she said it would be OK if I wanted to use the estrogen cream regularly/indefinitely (she and another doctor both claimed there should be no harmful effects of long-term use since I am applying such a small amount). So now I use it twice a week. If I forget a day, sometimes I notice the burning is more noticeable. Anyway, it has made all the difference. Unfortunately seems to have nothing to do with making intercourse feel better (I'm guessing that is a muscle thing), but the day-to-day burning that was putting me in tears regularly is nearly gone, or very mild if I do notice it. -Lea > > From: Lea > Subject: Ready to try PT again > To: VulvarDisorders > Date: Friday, October 24, 2008, 12:54 AM > > > > > > > I have been dealing with my vulvodynia for almost two years now (though > I have always had pain related to intercourse) . Guest guest
I have been using compounded estrogen and I missed a day because of my period and started back up toay and boy, it really burns the first couple of days for me. I was told to add Calendula cream with it which I do but still get lots of burning but many sau it helps..after about 5 days I usually do not notice anything..
