Guest guest
I disagree. I used to live and work within healthcare in Boston. Although there are a number of medical teaching schools in the area, the physicians are very conservative and are unwilling to try new forms of therapy and surgical procedures. The governor has also made a complete mess within the state and now even the major public Hospital, Boston City, is suffering due to the new policies put into place last year. Boston also does not offer the Mckay. Subject: Possibly moving to Florida from Boston W/PDD-NOS 15 Year old sonTo: sList Date: Wednesday, September 7, 2011, 8:57 AM Hello to everyone, Nice to read all the messages. I need some help with schools in south Florida or the Orlando area. Our son is adopted from Romania age 2 up until just about two years ago was very unsafe, restrained all the time, and extremely challenging. After, years of working with the schools and him we are in a good place. He receives in Boston not only the specialized school, but after school (where is does his homework) weekend respite and a summer program. He is also, transported by a private bus company. I believe he could be in a general high school with supports as long as it was the right school. I don't want to back slide all the years just by moving to Florida. His IEP is power packed! Do they transfer all or some of the services or does it change drastically. The two counties I heard were the best were Broward and Seminole in Orlando. Cost of living in Boston is alot my husband has had to take a cut in pay so we are having a hard time paying the mortgage payment. However, schools for our son are great...hopefully could someone shed some light on this subject. Thanks so much!

Guest guest
Don't even think of moving here unless you want to homeschool your son. We fight for every service we get and that's not much...the whole group tells people what we have experienced here in Florida. Why leave a good thing there? Can you hold on a little longer? > > > >> > >>Subject: Possibly moving to Florida from Boston W/PDD-NOS 15 Year old son > >>To: sList > >>Date: Wednesday, September 7, 2011, 8:57 AM > >> > >> > >>Â > >>Hello to everyone, Nice to read all the messages. Guest guest
There are however 2 good charter schools for autism in the Palm Beach area if you are lucky enough to get in . Palm Beach School for Autism and Renaissance School. It may be difficult to get in now the kids are back in school but worth a shot. Otherwise I would say the services provided in most areas of the East Coast by the School Districts are much better than Florida though there are better private therapy centers in Florida as well as greater availability of alternate therapies for those able to pay.Sent from my iPad Don't even think of moving here unless you want to homeschool your son. Guest guest
There is hope! The ARC of walton county is opening a charter vocational transitional school for 18 to 22 year olds seeking a special ed diploma, this was put into place due to the appalling neglect of the school districts responsibility to provide and implement using "hello?" the IEP! We r delayed in opening due to the special ed teacher taking another job last minute! Guest guest
Hi Lady from Boston, if I were you I would call a few high schools and ask what they have to offer. You can find the schools on the school district's web site (www.browardschools.com). Then I would call the School District and ask them the same questions. You can always call (the districts main number) and take it from there. Good Luck, H.T.
