Guest guest
What accommodations do you feel are the most helpful for your child with PDD or Autism? Obviously, mine is not going to be extremely high need with PDD but he has a lot of issues and is full maintstreamed. I do understand each child is different but I was curious as to see what you felt was the most important accommodations to be added on the IEP. Mine has a lot of issues writing, keeping track of changing topics, organizing himself and getting assignments done on time. He also doesnt seem to be able to handle essay answer tests. I heard it is possible to get multiple choice tests? Has anyone received this? How is it worded? I was suggested that the Recorder on my sons iep is the most important right now...and I do feel that was a great accommodation that is not being upheld. I am looking to get that enforced right now. I started looking at the Smart Pen which was recommended but it is very pricey. Im scared to send a $200 pen with my son! I know Costco sells them which is great!! I am going to research cheaper recorders today. I would say my sons biggest issues are keeping track of what is going on in the classroom and taking notes. He starts focusing on the first words he hears and looses track of the rest of class. I was also given the suggestion of getting an advocate to attend my IEP meeting. I have to look into that. I tried to run a search on this forum but I had a hard time finding out responses to this and how it worked out. I will be having my child's Psychologist attend his IEP and that will be the first time ever! I am thrilled she can make it!! BUT...I realize this will be another long year!! Guest guest
I wanted to add...I appreciate all the advice I have received here. I have contacted the FLDOE regarding his bus issue. I have no clue if they will resolve it but I guess it is a start. I have been linked up with a few resources that seem to be a good start. I know all our kids are very different. Having 2 kids on the spectrum to me is hard work. I have been sitting here crying the last few weeks as I feel so helpless in working with the Public School. As of right now my aspie is doing great in private school. Besides a few bully issues...she is easy to handle right now. But I feel so let down by the school system. I have been fighting with them since my son was in K and 11 years later I feel like Ive made no real advancements! It is terrible.

Guest guest
Ok...So I know I have been asking and I found an amazing link!! I wanted to share this with you as it has some great ideas.
