Guest guest
, When had pacreatitis in 1999, he actually went 6 weeks without food. He was on home health care where a nurse would come to the home and check him. He had a IV bag and a pick line and would " eat " 2 times a day. He lost tons of weight. His enzymes were so high and everytime they tried to let him eat, he had pain. The other two times he had it, not nearly as severe, as soon as his enzymes went down, they would try him on liquids and then worked up to regular food as tolerated. He went sometimes 3 or 4 days with an IV fluid in. Nothing but ice chips. They never found any reason for the episodes. Are they feeding Fred through IV? Hope so It was strange, that once had the first bad attack, alot about his body chemistry changed. He no longer ran hot, you could almost feel the heat come off him. Now he tends to run cold. That's what happened to us. Hope it helps Pamela (wife of ) _____________________________________________________________ Click for free info on rehab treatments for drug & amp; alcohol dependency. http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL2111/fc/Ioyw6iifcCGgsTLDz4UMf13RrmmuQWoVopRf\ DZDzx2wY974vj4oaqO/
Guest guest
The poor guy! Can't imagine going six weeks without food. Fred's gastro and hospital do not treat pancreatitis as inpatient, and the IV at home was never brought up. She believes in giving the patient a nutritional drink supplement called Resource Breeze, which does not stimulate the pancreas. That's what he's been subsisting on for 13 days - before that a 4 day complete fast, except for pedialyte and water. Has done well on it, just continuing to lose weight, even on an average of 3000 calories a day. (That would never happen to me!) Interesting about the body chemistry change. Fred would sure like to run a little colder! He sweats profusely at the slightest exertion, and living in the south makes the heat harder to bear. Guest guest
, How are you handling all of this? I know when Todd couldn’t eat for so long it was hard on all of us because I wouldn’t let anyone eat or drink around him…but Todd was in the hospital and we could disappear for food. It must be so hard on you having him at home going through this. My thoughts are prayers are with you. Guest guest
You're very sweet Joanne - but not to worry. Fred said it doesn't bother him in the LEAST if I eat in front of him, which is good, cause I'm doing my share of stress eating! However, I'd covet your prayers for Fred - he said he'd covet anyone's prayers. He prefers my company while eating in the same room with him rather than him being alone and me eating in another room. (The shouting gets old - plus his voice is so weak, even when in the same room I keep saying " What/Pardon/You say something/Huh????? " ) I've read through the archives on " pancreatitis " and found where your son had it for several months before being diagnosed??? Now THAT whole process was much tougher than anything I've gone through with Fred. I still haven't found anyone who drank a nutritional supplement to treat their pancreatitis. Fred's case was definitely mild though. It was the horrible UC flare up combined with the pancreatitis that got to him.
