Hello,

Does anyone know if there is some type of aftercare out there for our ASD kids? I thought that at one time ARC may have had something. I work so I need something that can do something like 2:00 to 6:00. Does this exist?

Thanks!

Annette

I know JCC offers after school care, but I don't think they have enough specifically for special needs.Subject: Re: Is there after care out there for our kids? To: sList Date: Thursday, September 15, 2011, 4:36 PM

I have only good things to say about the YMCA at Oakland Elementary. I know that at least one of the women in charge there has a child who is on the spectrum. I think Ann Storc and the Broward Children's Center also has aftercare. If you kid can handle it you could ask around at different private daycare centers and see if they would take her. I know of many asd kids who attend aftercare where they are mainstreamed so to say with gen Ed kids.

I wouldn't remommend Ann Storck. My child went there for 2 months, and I took her out because they didn't seem to be prepared to deal with kids on the spectrum, no visual schedules or anything, and everytime I would pick her up, she would be playing with the same toy by herself in a corner, plus the building is a little rough looking. In addition to that, they gave my daughter regular food when she was on a strict GFCF diet at the time, all because they felt bad for her not eating what i had sent her from home, so instead of calling me, they fed her something else.
