Guest guest
Hope to just put u at ease a bit. Medicine has come a long way, back in 1977 I had to have my thyroid and para's cut out, and they prepared me for a long stay for recovery, and most likely would have a hoarse voice the rest of my life. I woke from the surgery and on the way back up to my room they could not believe I was talking non stop! Then I only stayed 8 days verses possible month. I have done fine, take my med every day. But I know of 2 persons who since they have the pill form now, have it done that way and neither had to resume on a replacement? So I guess with anything else everyone is different, but good luck you should not have to worry, and will feel better once they get you functioning back properly in that department. Glad you'll be able to go back on the thyroid med. You don't realize just what a vital part it plays unless you cannot take it for any reason for an extended period of time! And I'm sure it's been aggravating your fibro..... ((Hugs)) Darlene > > > > Debbie - That's wonderful news. Hopefully it will be simple and > quick. Guest guest
Wondering about something here - years ago when I was probably about 7 or 8, I was diagnosed as being hyperthyroid and they thought I might have a goiter. I vaguely remember having to go for some type of treatment where they gave me something radioactive to swallow (capsule form) and then I had to lay under this large machine in a room by myself. I had quite a few of these treatments and haven't really had or heard any experience with this since then. After that I was hypothyroid and now have to take thyroid meds daily. As I said, this was a long time ago - I'm 49 now and my mom was the one who took me. She has passed on so I have no way to find out what it exactly was. The doctor who treated me has passed away as well and trying to find those records I'm sure would be doable but probably would take quite a bit of doing. Not sure if this is related to the type of iodine treatments Debbie is going through or would anyone think this is completely different or even have any ideas on what it might have been? Grasping I guess. Teri (central WI) Re: Re: My iodine treatment Don't Worry Hope to just put u at ease a bit. Guest guest
I had this same treatment too Teri, but mine was as an adult in " 95 and I can't even remember what it was all about, except that my dr said it would destroy the function of my thyroid and would need to take synthroid or the like the rest of my life. Now just a week ago, I saw my RH and he wants to have my thyroid blood work done alot more often. (every 3 mo. instead of yearly) He said I'm in the very lowest of the normal range and it could be causing some of my fibro symtoms. I'm not due to have it checked til this Mar. so I will keep you posted. How often do you have your blood work and is it in the normal range? Guest guest
Hey Judy, Yeah, I seem to remember something about the treatment frying my thyroid - I also take meds daily for it. I have it checked every 6 months but just had it checked in January and I was just about borderline to where the doc was thinking about increasing my levothyroxine. Now she wants me to check it in a couple of months to see if it needs to be increased or not. I know there are days where I forget to take it (bad, bad) and I end up swelling up and not feeling well. I was chastised by my doctor because she said taking it daily is very important and that if not taken regularly can have dire consequences - it's just so hard to remember with all the other meds I'm taking. I'm thinking about getting one of those pill boxes for days of the week - except that I have to take certain meds at certain times of the day and I don't know if they make them that way. - Oh yeah, by the way - what was that about long lost twin sister? ;-) seems so doesn't it. We're waiting for another dumping of snow tomorrow - I think you and Jeanne are in the same path - we just got 11 inches on Thursday. Hubby went to purchase a snow blower this morning which are getting scarce - should have bought one at the beginning of the year but he thinks he's superman and can do all the shoveling - well now it's starting to bother his back and he finally agreed to buy one. Teri (who is finally taking a day to do absolutely nothing - much needed) (central WI) RE: Re: My iodine treatment Don't Worry I had this same treatment too Teri, but mine was as an adult in " 95 and I can't even remember what it was all about, except that my dr said it would destroy the function of my thyroid and would need to take synthroid or the like the rest of my life.
