Guest guest
Hi Ann, This is a very late response but I saw your question about citrus bioflavonoids. I've been taking the Natrol Ester-C with bioflavonoids (500 mg, 3 per day) for a long time and have never experienced any problems. Dr. Nase specifically recommended Ester-C, and from what I've read, bioflavonoids are a supplement that anyone with vascular problems or inflammation should take every day. As has mentioned, buckwheat products are a good source of rutin, an additional bioflavonoid source. Here is a snippet of one article on bioflavonoids and vitamin C; these compounds work together: " Bioflavonoids are found in the rind of citrus fruit, and may help in the absorption of Vitamin C. In addition, Bioflavonoids strengthen capillary walls, which helps prevent spider veins, varicose veins, and hemorrhages and bruises. They also work as an anti-inflammatory agent by deactivating enzymes that produce inflammation. Their primary beneficial role may be in protecting vitamin C from oxidation in the body. This makes more C available for use by the body. Studies have shown that the bioflavonoid quercetin is effective in reducing herpes sores. Quercetin may also relieve the symptoms of many allergies by strengthening cell walls that would normally release histamines and seratonin into the bloodstream. " http://www.mothernature.com/articles/bioflavonoids/article1.stm VitamineShoppe.com has the best deal going on Natrol EsterC with bioflavonoids, as well as most other supplements. ~Jim *********************************************** Hi Everyone. I am going to start to take Ester-C and Grape Seed Extract, as has been recommended here. I found the grape Seed Extract by Source Naturals that was recommended, but I'm wondering about the Ester-C. I bought Natrol Ester-C, but I see it has bioflavoids, extracts from Lemon. That doesn't sound good for rosacea. I react to citrus. Will this be bad? Could someone tell me which one they take that doesn't give them problems? I see at Vitamin Shoppe.com they do have a lot of other Ester-C by Natrol, some with nothing added. Perhaps that's the one that I should be taking. Also, is there a Zinc supplement that is better for us than others? I want to take the right thing and I would so appreciate your help. One time I took regular Vitamin C and oh what a mess my face was!! Thanks. Ann
Guest guest
---( level-1 text from Jim. T = 20.02.2001 on 08:18 +0000 )--- >.... As has mentioned, buckwheat products are a good >source of rutin, an additional bioflavonoid source. Buckwheat is an excellent natural food that can add nutrition and variety to your diet. Important to add: buckwheat is *NOT* a kind of wheat. In fact, it isn't even in the grass family, which is the family of grain plants like wheat, rye, barley, oats, millet, etc. Buckwheat is from Central Asia and was introduced into Europe in the 16th century. BTW, FWIW, I read somewhere that northern Europeans used rye for generations, because it grows better in cold climates (up to the arctic circle), and may be a reason for the large number of people with allergies to wheat, which, though long known in Europe, was a comparative luxury until the 17th century. (In France, an 8th century edict of Charlemagne fixed the price of oats at one denier, barley at two denier, rye at three denier and wheat at four denier per bushel. You can thus assume relative quantities consumed by Europeans of the time according to the price difference between these four grains.) Just a little sidebar for interest. Ray Weisling If someone says something is impossible, don't believe them. Most people would have thought riding half a carriage, without horses, quite impossible -- until the bicycle was invented. Guest guest
With all due respect, just wanted to make a comment about the negative Juice Plus statement. It probably has more clinical and scientific studies to support the efficacy of their product than half the vitamins on the market. One of my best friends, whose son is considered "recovered" used Juice Plus throughout her son's entire recovery program with great results. I as well used a similar whole food supplement with my kids, and have been very happy with our results. Of course, this was far from the only thing we did. We have been strictly gluten free, dairy free, soy free minus specific food allergies, have done over 600 dives of mild Hyperbaric Oxygen, 2 detox foot baths per week, EMF mitigation, many other supplements, etc., but I am now happy to say that my son is now modeling and acting in Hollywood, CA. Believe me, I am already writing my book, "From Autism to Acting!!". I must say as a disclaimer that results may vary, but I at least wanted to defend the Juice Plus product. I have nothing to gain from that. It's just that I have several friends that swear by this product. The person I am referring to is Lori Ortiz, owner and editor of the Parent Notebook there locally. I'm sure she will be happy to tell you her amazing story. Unfortunately, our kids are snowflakes, and what works great for one child might cause a reaction in another, so we must try to experiment with products that bode well in our risk vs benefit analysis. Guest guest
First let me say I have never personally used this product but I feel the need to comment. Some of the ingredients in the product can be toxic if not " diluted " properly, but they are used in a lot of homeopathic meds. There is one ingredient that is an " unknown " . Nobody seems to know what it is and the makers of the product won't explain. I would be bothered by this, as I worry about how things will interact w/ prescribed meds, how it will affect my child's body (liver, pancreas, heart, etc.)and overall safety. Unfortunately there are also a lot of things on the web that also show an opposite view of this product. Stating it is " a waste of money " or it is " not at all effective " . There are also many that talk about fraudulent billing practices. My personal feeling is that if you fed your kid V8 or a very nutritious well balanced diet with a multi-vitamin or vitamin supplements, you might see the same result at a lower cost. We all want desperately to see positive results with our children, and many of us will spend a lot of time and money to get a good result. Unfortunately there are some who will prey on the parents of the disabled or people who are desperately seeking help for their children. I think we all just need to make a determination for ourselves if whatever we try or use is within our budget, is worth trying, and if it is safe for our child. If it doesn't work, gets too expensive for our budget, or becomes a health hazard, we can stop using it. Guest guest
Bingo.....they are all by juice plus. Wikpedia sheds much more light on the situation. Remember this is a pyramid operation ( multi level sales) and is the same company that brought you overpriced fire alarms , water filters, etc, in the past. Ps. What got me going was when a distributor said she cured her son with this stuff. Guest guest
Gracefully stated Glenda, and that is the approach we must take especially on a list serv such as this where we have such a wide variety of parents who are all searching for "something" to help their children. I just thought that was a very unfortunate, unfair, and very broad statement for someone to call an entire company "snake oil" when I personally know of some VERY wise and educated people who absolutely have experienced great improvements in their health and that of their children. As I said, I have not used it either, but it was just wrong to attack a company like that. That was not ethical. For that matter, there are lots of physicians out there that are recommending this or that supplement which contain magnesium sterate, which according to research done by Dr Deitrich Klinghardt is very damaging to our DNA, and it's practically in every capsuled vitamin out there. It's very scary. Yes, absolutely, it is most optimal for us to get organic dark green leafy vegetables and fruits that have not been sprayed with DDT or other harmful chemicals or colored with Red 40 or Yellow 5. But our food supply is very diminished in nutrient value and very tainted. I give my kids a whole food fruit and vegetable supplement similar to Juice Plus, and have since we got our diagnosis when my son was 2 1/2, and I NEVER said that this is what recovered my son. I listed the NUMEROUS things we did. Anyone who knows me personally knows that we almost went bankrupt with all the therapies and supplements we did. Would I do it all again? Yes. Do I think the whole food supplement played a role? Absolutely. That's all. Wanda Re: supplements First let me say I have never personally used this product but I feel the need to comment. Guest guest
While I agree with you 95% I would remove the doesn't fit into our budget comment. If there was something out there that I knew would help my child I would find a way for it to fit in my budget. I juice for my son each day because he will not eat veggies. This has worked for years, it is relatively inexpensive (organic is a must and cost more), and NOTHING is better than whole organic unprocessed food. V8 juice is better than nothing but juice should be drank within 24 hours of juicing to get the full benefits and there is no telling how long the V8 has been sitting on the shelf. Guest guest
Hi , The one I give is called i-nourish from www.giawellness.com enriched with prebiotics. I as well blend a drink every morning for the kids and myself which contains: 2 cups Aloe Vera Liquid, 1 cup organic pear juice, 1 cup organic pineapple juice, 2 scoops of Harmonized Vegan Protein by Proventive Nutrition, a big handful of a dark green leafy vegetable (kale, spinach, broccoli, green beans, whatever I have available) 1/2 -1 cup of organic blueberries, a few cubes of ice and blend. I blend instead of juice as that way you get the whole food product including pulp and that way it slows down the insulin response due to sugar release and the fiber will increase healthy bowel movements. Just play around with the recipe til your child gets used to the different taste. It really is like a multi vitamin/mineral in a blender. Enjoy, and good for you for taking the time to give your child optimal nutrition. Wanda Re: supplements First let me say I have never personally used this product but I feel the need to comment.
