Guest guest Posted July 20, 2010 Report Share Posted July 20, 2010 - District Offers Free " Weekend With the Experts " Workshops Broward County Public Schools ESE (Exceptional Student Education) Department is offering a series of free Saturday " Weekend With the Experts " workshops. Although targeted for parents of students with disabilities, the workshops are open to all parents who wish to attend. Pre-registration is required. To register, contact FDLRS Parent Services at or DiLuzio, FDLRS Child Find/Parent Services Specialist at (.diluzio@...). Detailed workshop information is available on the ESE website (www.broward.k12.fl.us/studentsupport/ese/html/workshop.htm). Saturday workshop dates, topics and presenters are listed below. All workshops will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Locations will be announced at a later date. September 11 - " Getting to FAPE: Advocacy Tips Under Laws Designed to Protect Students with Disabilities " - Rosemary N. Palmer, Attorney-at-Law, Tallahassee, FL October 9 - " Creative Relaxation for Busy Parents " - Fury, Registered Yoga Teacher, Aurora, CO October 16 - " Taming the Spirited Child " - H. Popkin, Ph.D., Founder, Active Parenting Publishers, Kennesaw, GA October 23 - " 101 Strategies to Help Struggling Students Succeed " - Tilton, Shorewood, MN November 6 - " Brain Gym for Parents " - , BrainBodyBond, Hollywood, FL November 20 - " Cap it Off With a Smile: A Guide for Making Friends " (Social Skills) - Feldman, Inwald and Barry Goldstein, Inwald Research, Inc., Cleverdale, NY December 4 - " Transitions " (Preparing Children for their Next Environment) - Stacey Hoaglund, Family Newwork on Disabilities - Broward, Fort Lauderdale, FL In addition, a special free half-day workshop will be offered on Monday, October 11, 9 a.m.- Noon. The location will be announced at a later date. The topic of that workshop will be " Improving Parent-Child Communications " and will be presented by T. Atilla Ceranoglu, MD, Harvard University Boston, MA.
