Have any of you had facet injections in the joints of your lower back? My

doctor says I have had too many epidurals and he feels facet injections would

help alleviate a lot of pain. If you have had any experience with this

please share. Thanks in advance.

Gentle hugs,

Marla

I just recently had facet joint injections. The procedure was very

painful for me, but it does seem like it has helped my low back pain

somewhat. For some reason, it took the doctor a much longer time to do

the injections than when he did injections in my SI joint, and it was

very painful the whole time.

Mira,

I had facet injections in my neck, traps and occipital area for

about two years during 2005-2007. I went to a Chronic Pain

physician who was very adept at this procedure. Sometimes I had

anywhere between 3-7 on a given appointment. It was pretty quick.

This was cortisone and I had it every other month. That is a lot

of cortisone. It seems to hurt and cause more pain for about the

first week. Then you may have a few weeks of relief and then it

wears off.

I realized that after 2 years, it was doing nothing for me anymore.

But a few of the initial ones did help some.

I know they do botox as well with the facet joint injections too.

But, I was a little leary of that. At least cortisone is something

your body makes naturally.

Let us know how you are doing and if you decide to do it. A good

Chronic pain doctor should also have and anetheisalogy license as

well! They know where and how to inject precisely in the right

spot. A normal GP should not give you these.
