Guest guest
Hello, I'm new to the group, and this is my first response. I mean no disrespect, just want to share my heart with you. I hope this helps. When my son was 1, I noticed he would throw up his food a lot. I figured out that he was highly sensitive to the smells of food. So I had to be careful of everything I gave him. Each time I would try to introduce a new food, he would gag, and he would throw up.. he would even throw up sometimes when he got mad, because he would get so upset. But it wasn't until I started my small technical consulting company in Sebastian, Florida that I learned a lot more. A client requested that I wear no hair spray, no deodorant or anything with a smell. I thought that was kind of strange, but I could relate because I stopped wearing perfume, hairspray and other kinds of products years ago because they made me sick each time I wore any of them.. So, I went to her house to fix her laptop and when she answered the door, she had face mask covering her mouth and nose. My first thought was she had some kind of disease. She quickly educated me about chemicals; perfumes and household products that make people sick. She explained that she had been exposed to a variety of these things over the years and now any smells made her really sick.. For the first time in my life, I had met someone just like me. For many years I would complain all the time about perfumes, cleaning products, candles, air fresheners, laundry products, even toothpaste, but people would say I was overreacting. Getting sick to my stomach, dizziness, headaches, shaking etc were not just complaints. They were physical symptoms I would experience every time I was exposed to a chemical. I don't know if you son is experiencing the same, but where he is non-verbal, and you've had a variety of tests done, my guess is he's suffering from this type of disorder. Also, with regards to the food problems. The smells could be triggering him to get sick, which may be why he's refusing to eat those foods. I bet it's also a sensory issue as well with the food. My son won't eat something if he doesn't like the smell, texture or look of it. I can only state this, because my three year old son who is being tested for Autism will gag and throw up because of smells of food, sight of food or texture of food. He doesn't even have to touch it or smell it, and he will gag. This is why I can only get him to eat certain things. He is extremely sensitive to smells, so I have to cook some foods outside, that's how sensitive he is. Give your son whatever he will eat and supplement his diet with liquid vitamins or a protein shake of some sort that you can mix with his favorite drink to get him the nutrients he needs. Do keep trying to offer him new foods, and reintroduce foods, but don't force it upon him. If if doesn't like something, wait and try again at a later time. My suggestions are: Remove all chemicals from your home Only use baking soda and vinegar to clean your home. (These two together work better than any store bought product I have ever bought.) Open the windows during cleaning and cooking, because the smells from either cooking or vinegar will bother your son. For laundry, make sure your laundry room is well ventilated and the air in your home is changed frequently. Re-rinse your cloths to get the smell out.. Buy only unscented products, and try to buy products that are organic. Even products labeled " Natural " are really not.. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE. Also, if your a smoker, smoke outside. There are tons of chemicals in the products we use everyday, and they are making us sick. Remove all chemicals from your home now. Here is an article I found http://www.chemicalsensitivityfoundation.org/pdf/Multiple-Chemical-Sensitivities\ -Brochure.pdf The brochures the woman gave me a few years ago, I will send you once I get them scanned. I hope this helps. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. I wish you all the best, and I will pray for you and your son, that we can figure out what's going on. Please try what I recommend. This could make a world of difference for your son. P.S. I'm not a doctor, I'm just giving you advice and tips for the things that have worked for my three year old. Sincerely, Jackie
Guest guest
Just a quick note - I want to add that in my house I keep a spray bottle of 1/2 vinegar 1/2 water to spray in the microwave, bathroom, or anywhere there might be a bothersome smell. It tends to neutralize these odors. Glenda > > Hello, I'm new to the group, and this is my first response. I mean no disrespect, just want to share my heart with you.
