Hey ! We are enrolling in Westlake Academy. We were all set for his

next year at Sawgrass but then got a call from the Autism charter school in

Hialeah telling us he got a spot for next year. It was such an awesome program

but we decided it wasn't the right fit for Griff. Long story short, we had read

the article in Sun-sentinel about Westlake and I didn't do much about checking

it out because I was in my Sawgrass comfort zone. Then the Hialeah school got us

thinking about other options so we checked it out last week, filed for McKay,

got it and they are helping with what wasn't covered. They are capping it off at

65 kids for the Academy. On staff ESE specialist with much experience as well as

the Behavior specialist. They update the IEP goals every 3 weeks and what I

really like is they want to see him go to the Summit school (middle point

between the academy and the prep school). If it works out, Griff can stay there

thoughout his entire school career. We also are lucky enough to be friends with

Griff's teacher for Sawgrass and she has helped us compare what he will be doing

in her class next year to what they offer at Westlake. It's a new program, but

the school itself has been around for years. We planned on holding Griff back

before he leaves Sawgrass so as far as we are concerned, it's a year of

experimenting with nothing to lose. Hope this helps lol.
