Guest guest
Hi Sharon - My PCP is willing to let me try the B12 injections, she just doesn't think my insurance will cover because my lab tests show that I'm still within " normal " levels. I know some who learn how to give themselves the injections. Then they can purchase the vitamin from the pharmacy and don't have to pay for visits to the doc for the injections. Jeanne in WI Thankyou for your comment, just read a post from a nurse who broke down what b-12 was and what some Dr. believed what some of it converts to or possibly. Anyway, any info is good for me to know, I know alot about meds, as I am a Med Tech, but not this. I just wonder why I have been denied it, do these that have used it and use it get labs done, and Dr. determines from there?, or since it is a vitaman shot, do most Dr. agree to let anyone try. I just have been grasping at anything that might work for me besides all these meds. I will ask again when I go for my next follow-up why I have been turned down, maybe they just don't think it will work so won't try??, but I have great Dr.'s, and the other one was out in CA who said No. Maybe like I said because of my other conditions they won't do. Hope your having a ok day. Sharon
Guest guest
I assume most people have to go to the doctor's office to get B12 shots now. They generally charge a visit fee and a another hefty fee for the injection. That translates into needing insurance coverage for something that shouldn't be that expensive, so to get insurance to cover that, the doctor had better have some substantial evidence that the medical intervention is necessary - proven by a certain level on a blood test. Many people have symptoms that could be helped, but their test results are marginal, or not low enough to meet the criteria to have the insurance pay for it. That is the bottom line. Money. Period. It's a large part of why I quit nursing several years ago. Getting B12 filled at the pharmacy and giving it yourself used to be pretty inexpensive. Probably not anymore in most cases. But the bottom line in health care is MONEY. Regulations may be passed that look like they're for protecting individuals, but they're passed to keep drug companies, insurance companies, doctors, & hospitals wealthy. in Louisiana > Hi Sharon - My PCP is willing to let me try the B12 injections, she just > doesn't think my insurance will cover because my lab tests show that I'm > still within " normal " levels.
