STAND-Pinellas, is a local parent group that advocates to improve education opportunities for those with disabilities in Pinellas County and around the state. STAND-Pinellas is holding a statewide conference on Saturday, September 11, 2010, at Fitzgerald Middle School, 6410 118th Ave. N., Largo, FL, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This conference will provide parents, teachers, therapists and other professionals with resources that will help children with disabilities achieve success in all aspects of life. Federal and state exhibitors will be in attendance, including representatives from the Florida Developmental Disabilities Council. Judy Owen, a Council member, and Margaret Hooper, who staffs the Council's Public Policy and Advocacy Committee, will host an exhibit table at the workshop. They will also present a workshop during the conference - "The FDDC: Who We Are, What We Do and How You Can Be Part of It" - to showcase the Council's advocacy efforts, the projects the Council supports and the publications the Council produces.
