Guest guest
Hello everyone, I was wondering how everyone is able to get high doses of URSO. 's insurance refuses to fill the total precription that each of the liver doctors have written. They will only allow 300mg 3 times a day and the doctors want to have him for his size double that. Do we just have bad insurance or has it been a struggle for most of you? Just curious?? I doctor said he tried talking with the insurance company and still no go. It is amazing that a person behind a desk can veto 3 doctors opinions????? We are hoping once is out of nursing school which his finals are Friday, and he gets a new job, we can change insurance. Thanks for any input. Glad to hear the good news for Arne! I hope once is out of school and stress, perhaps his syptoms will slow down. Do you find stress makes PSC worse or cholangiitis attacks come on???? We have him on a small antianxiety pill and have made it 7 weeks without an episode so we are grateful for that. We couldn't make it pass 4 or 5 weeks. Yeah!! Hope everyone has a good day Pamela (Wife of ) _____________________________________________________________ Click here to get free info on vending machines and vending service. http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL2111/fc/Ioyw6iigb0sEjvB7uw62m9PI4fXQ6S51dNAg\ tEZdhiU5xShIrxja4y/
Guest guest
I am not normally a fan of , but his movie, "Sicko" addresses this very issue. We have corrupt insurance companies telling doctors how to treat their patients...and the people telling them how to treat their patient financially profit off of telling them to offer less treatment. It is ridiculous. PUSH FOR AND DEMAND UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE. It would not be a perfect system, no, but it'd certainly be better than all of this crap...having to run to an insurance company CEO like he's my daddy to ask if I can take some medicine that my doctor says I need. And Hillary and Obama's health plan is still entirely run by insurance companies, so those plans are not the answer. We need a health plan where doctors can do whatever they feel is medically necessary. urso and insurance Hello everyone, I was wondering how everyone is able to get high doses of URSO. Guest guest
I have had no problems getting high-dose URSO paid for by insurance. It may take a significant effort to get them to change; reams of high-dose URSO studies, copies of proceedings, etc. I did have the benefits people at my company interface with the insurance company at one time (different problem) - they were able to get it paid. I've never been able to tie stress to PSC symptoms, but who knows? HTH. Guest guest
I would also say that whenever you are really getting into it with your insurance company you want to put everything in writing - use faxes and emails to the extent possible instead of (or, better, in addition to) phone calls, and always start off the letter asking for what you want and then summarizing everything you've done to get it so far. My understanding is that no insurance company wants a huge patient file sitting around with perfect documentation of how they've denied reasonable requests for medical treatment time and time again, but every page you write goes right into their files... tx, Nina in Philly

Guest guest
Hi Pamela Well, I have to say that my experience with high dose URSO has been much better. My drug benefit plan at work did, however, impose some limitations insofar as the insurance company no longer covers the brand name version of URSO or any other meds when generic forms are available. So instead, I get the generic form of URSO which my hepatologist didn't think would yield markedly different results and all is good. One perhaps not so minor thing, I do live up in Canada so there are some inherent differences between our healthcare systems. But independent of that, my main concern is with my drug benefit plan offered through work. And I'm very happy I have that since I see what the meds would've otherwise cost me. Ouch!
