Guest guest
To (and !) 11/18/06 From the archives of 2006: Sent: Sunday, November 19, 2006 7:11 PM Subject: got his transplant yesterday! We got the call Friday/Saturday at 1:15a.m. to be at Vanderbilt by 7:00 that they had a liver for him. At the time we were still in the other hospital. So, as I was running around getting ready and calling everyone, had the nurses discharge him and we were on our way. The surgery began at 1:00 pm. I always thought there was a hurry, but apparently not. Anyway, they finished at around 7 pm. The surgeon said everything went fabulous, but he did have a lot of scar tissue from his J pouch surgeries. He is in SICU of course and still on a vent. He will be going back into surgery tomorrow to remove some blood clots from his abdomen. My goodness, I have never seen so many iv lines in all my life! But the nurses are wonderful and I get to go seem him anytime between 10 am and 5 pm and again from 8:30 pm unitl 10pm. I just checked into a motel and am heading back over to the hospital in just a bit. I knew all of you would want to hear the good news. Please pray for us that there will be few complications. I still feel like I am in a dream! wife of UC and PSC 2000 J pouch 2004 Transplant November 18, 2006!!!!!!!!!
Guest guest
Thank you! I enjoyed reading my post from a year ago. I could feel the excitement I felt then. We celebrated yesterday by having a family get together to celebrate his one year re-birthday. It was so strange to compare life this year with last year. One thing that was the same, we (UT) played Vanderbilt again this year. The game was during his surgery last year and we laughed that we had to become Vanderbilt fans for the day since that is where he had the transplant. Last year at this time, he was still in surgery. The emotions were overwhelming, we were excited and scared to death at the same time. His surgery went well, but the days following it were terrible as his body adjusted to Prograf. He was very difficult to be around and he couldn't format sentences. We were frightened that he had had a stroke, but after the meds were adjusted, he started getting better. Thanksgiving day last year, my dad, 's sister, and myself had hard chicken wings and hotdogs from the cafeteria. was asleep because his three days of insomnia had finally ended. When he was released from the hospital, we stayed in Nashville for a month. I Christmas shopped and we got to come home a couple of days before Christmas. We returned after the first of the year, and he had some rejection which we stayed in Nashville for three days to get under control. In the past year, he has gotten so much stronger! His quality of life is 100% better than before transplant. wife of UC & PSC 2000 J pouch 2004 Tx 11-18-
Guest guest
, Are you guys from Knoxville? You referred to UT as " we " , lol. I am from that area and still have family there. I grew up in the Oak Ridge/Claxton area.
