Hello everyone, hope all is well. I need some advice that I havent received

already. My son has become aggressive, started in the summer while being home.

Its a behavior that occurs at home, in therapy, school; basically anywhere where

he has to do it. The behaviors include hitting himself with an open hand to his

head, scratching others, pinching, head butting, and kicking. People have

suggested ABA but I cant afford it and insurance wont cover it. Is there

anything else I could do? The behaviors occur when he doesnt wanna do something

hes asked for. For instance, going to the potty for the potty training or doing

homework. HELP!

Thanks. :)

Do u have mental health benefits? If so u can try a pediatric cognitive

behavioral therapist, like " pediatric psychology " , in some cases they will even

come to your house.

Getting a true behaviorist to work with you would be a good starting point. They can suggest strategies for you and whomever works with your child to get around this behavior. Unfortunately, this behavior will only get worse in time. Perhaps you can get someone only for the interim simply to train? Or try calling CARD and see if they can send someone out. Good luck!Sent from my iPad

We have similar aggression issues with our 5 year old. Our behavior analyst has given us some great advice. First, we have to make sure we do not react in a stimulating manner as half of the reason he is having the meltdown is he is wanting attention and he is willing to take negative attention. When he starts throwing things we calmly walk over to him, with no facial expression and in a calm voice and tell him no and he is going into time out for throwing the (fill in the blank). We then calmly escort him into his room and close the door where he has to stay until he clams down. We have turned his room into a no fun zone so he hates having to sit in there. We have put all of his toys and anything that he could throw or hurt himself with away where he does not have access to them. Just started this intervention this weekend, so far so good!

You can contact Dr. Clayman in Tamarac 561 251-8398 He. takes kids with extreme aggression. Looks at hormones - no psychotropic drugs. Extreme aggression can be a hormonal issue.

We have noticed both patterns, he does it for attention and then when he doesnt wanna do whats asked. Honestly, dad and I have to work on our facial expressions and on our patience. Its hard at first. We have a time out chair which he hates... Im open to all your suggestions. I appreciate your time. Please keep in touch.

Dr. Clayman is a neuroradiologist MD (has a son with autism). This is not the DAN protocol. The testing is done a lab corp or quest so most insurances cover that. If your son's androgens are high out of range this could be a huge reason for the erratic aggressive behavior. There are a number of options to help keep the hormones under control depending on the results of the testing. This is an area not really looked at in depth with the DAN physicians. But for parents who have children with Testicular Hyperfunction and/or Hyperandrogenemia (high androgens)...this is definitely a solution and there are choices.

I've been told conflicting information about testosterone. My son's pediatrician says anything under 30 is good. My son's numbers are 27 and 29. I've been told DAN doctors think anything over 12 is bad. Who is right?

I could never get my son to sit in the time out chair and he just ended up getting in more trouble because he would not stay seated. Now that I have removed all fun things in his bedroom he hates having to go to his room for time-out.

It's not just looking at Testosterone...that's only one piece of this picture. The lab testing gives the normal range based on the age of the child. However, all the Androgens need to be looked at because it's the complete picture of hormones. DHEAs, DHT, LH, and so on. The issue is the DAN physician do not understand enough about hormones as a specialty. This is the work of Dr. Mark Geier who is an endocrinologist and ran Hopkins Obstetrics dept. for years. Mercury will drive up testosterone even in the smallest amounts. High testosterone is intrinsically connected to glutathione which remains low if the testosterone is high. Low sulphation is also connected to the high testosterone as well because of the DHEAs. Low sulphation leads to gut issues. Kids who have high testosterone have enormous strength and aggressive behaviors, non compliance issues, extreme OCD, high high anxiety and fear, seizures (in some cases), sleep issues, sexual behaviors, some have precocious puberty, some have hair loss... to name some of the symptoms. If there is aggression, better to rule out the hormones and avoid all those pyscho tropic drugs for the behaviors. There is a way to calm down the hormones which will keep the behaviors in check - it's dramatic. Plus you'll see cognitive improvement and if the glutathione increases the metals will begin to excrete on their own. Lots of positive things.
