Guest guest
Hello everyone, I am new here, well sort of I was apart of this group within the last year for a short while but unsubbed as I was not sure if I was in the correct group and also was too overwhelmed with all of my son's issues. Anyway, I'm , mom to Danny, 11, ADHD, 4 yr old Olivia, who has speach delays but they are mild and not officially dx'd yet, though going threw regular therapy which is helping her. I'm here for my youngest child, Ricky. He turned 2 on May 13th, he has moderate hypotonia, mostly trunk based, he is globally developmentally delayed, has scoliosis, hydronephrosis, and other issues that are mild and just checked annually. We see a OT, PT, AND ST monthly, on top of that he has multiple specialists...genetics, neurology, urologist, orthopedic, opthamologist (eyes), ENT, plus ofcourse his regular pediatrian Gets overwhelming at times still but I'm getting use to it LOL.... Ricky is 26 months old and is at various stages in development... he is at 18-20 months for fine motor, 12-18 months in gross motor, and 12-18 month for speach, though mostly closer to 12 months. he says mama, dada, nana (for banana), byebye, hi, home (just started that one), and that is basically it. He is also currently in a lull where he has not improved his skills in months. He started to walk finally at 23 months, and he is still at the beginner level, unbalanced, not able to do stairs without alot of assistance, going up, and just about has to be held to go down or he'll fall down. He won't jump up and down, wont go over obsticles, etc. He cannot hold a cup, or utensils to eat, etc. I try to get him to say cookie and he just makes the sound and gets frustrated... when I try to teach him new words or how to explain what he wants he makes these grunting sounds and thats all..... I don't kwow what to make of his speach issues. I dont know if its Apraxia or not, I see the childrens speach therapist again in August (I pay for a private therapist monthly and she is nto really helpfull, so I am goign to change after I see the childrens next month). I will see how she feels he is doing and why he is the way he is. I guess my question on advice is this...does this sound like verbal apraxia to you at all? I went to his OT last week and realized how much his receptive issues are affecting his fine motor delays and it was a real eye opener. I also asked her if she felt his problems were related to his low muscle tone and she commented that his mouth muscles are week..not sure how she could tell but anyway, its not the first time I have been told that. He also wont eat anything hard, food still needs to be soft, not mush, but soft as he seems to have a hard time chewing...... is this all related you think?? Any thoughts and/or advice I'd greatly appreciate, thank you! take care, *Visit Our Family Website* http://www.geocities.com/poohbear1252/index.html
