Guest guest
Dear Donna, I have never heard of a case of Shingles with pancreatitis....but......I have chronic pancreatitis and both my teenage daughters have had shingles 2 or 3 times. They are very painful! Hydrcortisone cream with one of the " caines " was a must for my girls.....they had them around the waist and are scarred from them! Make sure he doesn't scratch them open like chicken pox! I don't know if they will scar on the head like they do on the abdomen but I wouldn't want him to walk around with scars! Lets pray to God that he doesn't have an attack while he has the shingles! I could not imagine! Follow your doctors recs and I do pray he is doing better. Always, Holly in Dayton
Guest guest
Donna, I am sorry Cam has something else to deal with. I do not think I have ever had to deal with shingles before. I do hope he gets over this quickly and it does not make his pancreatitis worse. Talk to ya soon, --- DJWmck@... wrote: > Has anyone else experienced shingles along with > pancreatitis? Guest guest
Anytime your body goes through a physical or psychological stress the immune system and the virus that caused chickenpox that remains dormant in the body reactivates. If you catch shingles within 2-3 days there's proof that by taking Zovirax or Valtrex (anti-herpes meds) that the course may be shortened but more importantly there's less chance of postherpetic neuralgia a really painful phantom pain that persists for weeks to months after the shingles rash clears up. Sometimes docs prescribe oral cortisone like prednisone but with his c.p. I don't think that's a good idea because of the GI risks. He needs to avoid pregnant women and anyone with an impaired immune system (like someone getting chemo, etc). If he has a future attack I'd insist on an antiviral medicine (see above) but it's too late for it to be effective this bout. My daughter was in and out of the hospital and ER 20 times last year over 2 months with kidney stones (she was 9 at the time) and broke out with shingles which was as painful as her passing a kidney stone. If he has itching use benadryl 25 mg every 4-6 hrs and Caladryl or Hydrocortisone cream on the rash. Youre both in my prayers SHINGLES > Has anyone else experienced shingles along with pancreatitis? If so...any > " do's " or " don'ts " ? Cam has come down with them over his head.
