Hello,I've moved from NY last year and my daughter who is diagnosed with ASD/Asperger has been going to Whispering Pines. I'm not familiar with the school system here and so when I was told by another school (West Broward H.S.) that they didn't have the proper school setting for her, they forwarded all of my daughter's information to the school. My daughter from the beginning hasn't felt comfortable or happy at the school. In general its been a difficult time for my daughter moving from New York, my question is, should I have looked for another school on my own or was Whispering Pines the best fit for her. How do I go about changing my daughter's school, what research do I have to do in order to make the

right choice. If anyone has a person that I can speak to or a school that I can contact, I would really appreciate it, I don't want to have my daughter in a school for another year is she will not be happy and not learning.Sincerely,

Whispering Pines is one of the 3 center schools serving severely emotionally disturbed children. They really should not be servicing your child if her primary classification is an autism spectrum disorder. They do service our kids but their primary is usually an emotional disturbance of some sort, which would be the primary classification. There are also center schools for children with autism that service kids who tend to have more challenges. Many schools in the district can offer services in a mainstream school setting and/or have what they call cluster classrooms on campus, which are essentially self contained classes. Hope this helps!Sent from my iPhone

You can call Child Find @ and ask for an advocate. It is free. Stacey, Ysela (both are great). Elle Furlong is an atty/advocate - (fee) and is awesome - you'll have to look up her number though I don't have it handy sorry. They will help you with placement, what tests are needed etc.

Good luck. This is not an easy county or state for that matter for our kids.

Tina,Thanks so much for your input regarding Whispering Pines, has been having such a hard time adjusting and now I can understand why. I know my daughter has some emotional problems, but her major diagnosis is ASD/Asperger.I'm just upset that I've let a whole year pass by, I thought it was that my daughter was having such a hard time adjusting as the major issue. I'm on a quest to have her school changed. Thanks so much for your help. To: "sList " <sList >Sent: Fri, August 20, 2010 12:06:03 PMSubject: Re: Schools in Broward - for ASD - Asperger Whispering Pines is one of the 3 center schools serving severely emotionally disturbed children.
