LAKELAND, Florida --Recently released video shows a 70-year-old bus attendant attacking a boy on a Polk County school bus by hitting him, pulling his hair and biting him, the Lakeland Ledger reports.

Hattie Yvonne Branch told police that a 14-year-old boy on the bus would regularly shout profanities at her, threaten her and pretend to elbow her, the newspaper said.

On June 2, police said Branch went into a rage and beat the boy. The incident occurred on the special needs bus after the boy was horseplaying and launched a 5-year-old over a seat. The boy's feet then struck Branch, according to investigators.

According to Branch's arrest report, when she was asked why she bit the student, she told police, "I was told by my supervisor that I could use the force necessary to protect myself when attacked."

Branch was arrested July 8 on child abuse charges and was released the next day from jail on $10,000 bail, records show.

A pre-trial hearing is set for October 25.

Fortunately there are laws for battery and aggravated battery, but that doesn't

always stop it from happening. We can only hope that the legal system will do

what is right and give strong penalties.
