Guest guest
I need an advocate for my ASD, E/B cluster son (not mainstreamed) transitioning to middle school next year, and my 3rd grade son who is ADHD and failing in school. He just scored a 24% on reading on the BAT test and 44% on math and I am freaking out because he used to be above grade level in everything. He has interventions in place that are not working since last year, and the school refuses to do the psycho/educational evaluation to move forward to the IEP. He takes meds at school for the ADHD. The last time I required an advocate was 4 years ago, and it was free through the Family Network on Disabilities of Broward County. Apparently it is free for my ASD son, but not for my ADHD son. They now charge by the hour for ADHD kids. I know that my son's issues are going to endless hours of work/meetings/phone calls/emails/etc (the school has already been difficult) and I cannot afford to pay $58/hour. Are there any free advocacy services in Broward through an association, organization, CMS Title 21, or other? Flat rate would be my second choice. But hourly is scary...been there, done that!
