Guest guest Posted October 13, 2011 Report Share Posted October 13, 2011 NSU to Host Free Expo for People with Disabilities The DisAbilities Expo will be held on Saturday, Oct. 15 Location: Alvin Sherman LIbrary and the Don Taft University Center at Nova Southeastern University. 3100 Ray Ferrero, Jr. Blvd. Davie, Florida Special Needs : Legal and Social Issues- Finding Your Way Through The Maze Presented By Jerry Cohn, M.Ed., JD Civil Rights Attorney Room 3015 Session 1: 9:30am - 10:45am Session 2: 11:00am - 12:15pm A workshop for parents, caregivers and special needs professionals featuring special needs future planning: Eligibility for (and sometimes denial of) public and private benefits; capacity, guardianship, and alternatives; and other legal issues of interest. Benefits and Tax Planning for Special Needs Families Presented by: F. Greenberg and Jaret L. Vogel Prosperity Life Planning Room 3018 Session Time 11:00am - 12:30pm This workshop will provide A- to- Z information about how to get the most benefits from Social Security, creating a support plan for your child, tax deductions you may not have thought of, trusts, guardianships and more. Greenberg is a special needs mom, tax expert, and director of PLP, and you'll learn how she developed a life plan for her son. This is information every special needs parent should know. Nova Southeastern University will host one of Florida's largest and longest running expo for people with disabilities on Saturday, Oct. 15. at the Alvin Sherman Library, Second Floor. The 32nd DisAbilities Expo will offer many opportunities for people with physical, emotional, and psychological disabilities. The free event, which will be held at NSU's Alvin Sherman Library and Don Taft University Center, will provide health information, educational seminars, exhibits, sports, and more. The expo is open to people with disabilities, their family and friends, and the general public. Free seminars will address what's next after high school for youth with disabilities and others on special needs planning, wills, trusts and guardianships. In addition to these two seminars, an ESE parent workshop and a wheelchair basketball tournament featuring The Miami Heat Wheels. The 32nd DisAbilities Expo will offer many opportunities for people with physical, emotional, and psychological disabilities. The free event, which will be held at NSU's Alvin Sherman Library and Don Taft University Center, will provide health information, educational seminars, exhibits, sports, and more. The expo is open to people with disabilities, their family and friends, and the general public. The Expo aims to provide the latest services, resources, products and information for individuals with developmental, sensory, emotional or physical disabilities. There will be over 60 exhibitors, as well as entertainment and educational activities. Participants can learn about local South Florida disability agencies, organizations and businesses that will provide services, programs, resources, free goodies and products for children, teens, adults and seniors with disabilities. Activities for children will include musical performances, sign-language bingo, arts and crafts, shows, and appearances by pirates.
