Guest guest
I was told that my daughter has apergers/pdd/or high functioning autism. No one has suggested any testing, only that she needs to be in a social group. Even the school don't want to test her because they say it wont change the services she already receives(she has adhd). i would like to know which one she has and what works best with this disorder. Should she have some testing??

Guest guest
It is important to get a diagnosis as this will affect the services available to her. Do you have insurance? These diagnostics can be expensive without insurance. A good place to start is at the CARD center. We got our diagnosis from a child psychiatrist using the ADOS test. Neurologists can administer the diagnostics as well. I would also pursue the school option as then the diagnostic would be free (but this route can be frustratingly long). aspergers I was told that my daughter has apergers/pdd/or high functioning autism. Guest guest
Of course the school does not want testing. If she getsĀ and autism diagnosis regardless of her place on the spectrum she is protected under IDEA and they are then accountable. Do your private testing get a 299.00 cpt code diagnosis and thhen she will get a full blown IEP and the services he gets will likely change. They just don't want to have to give her more or other accommodations.
Guest guest
i have cms insurance, i am waiting for an eval to be approved through the ins but she said they won't approve the full amount of time. it's been since June!! Between the school and the insurance i am exhausted. The neurologist we saw is so busy she's useless. I am trying to get a second opinion and they don't have appt's available to see the dr until January. I think I am going to pay for the private eval, does the school honor the private recommendations? Thanks for the advice. ~ > > It is important to get a diagnosis as this will affect the services available to her. Do you have insurance? These diagnostics can be expensive without insurance. Guest guest
Sounds like my daughter. The school did not want to test her but i pushed it. I have not gotten the results back yet they are finishing up the testing now. I just had a confrence with her teachers and her homeroom teacher did tell me that she sees the quriks and thing like her putting her feet up under her on the chair and her sensitivity to loud noises. Hopefully I will have a meeting so to see what the school has come up with.I cannot afford Social programs so I decided to put my daughter on the Swim Team this year. It really seems to have helped her a little bit so far. It has especially helped us with the homework time in the afternoon. She now comes home and gets her homework done right away. She even told me one day that she loves her scedule this year of coming home, doing homework, and then going swimming which made me really happy.Sent from my iPad I was told that my daughter has apergers/pdd/or high functioning autism. Guest guest
Definitely push for the testing in the school. ADHD is a 504 plan, but ASD eligibility requires an IEP. If you can, see a psychologist or a neurologist and get a private diagnosis, and bring that with you to the school. If you are in Broward, Dr. Tuchman at the Dan Marino Center in Weston is very good. An ASD eligibility comes with legal obligations for the school to provide a " free and appropriate education " to your child. An IEP will then be developed to help your child meet specific goals and objectives. Good luck to you!
Guest guest
You wrote that "ASD eligibility requires an IEP." Do you have a location I could view, to see a statement like that, such as in IDEA 2004 Law or Regulation, or someplace else? I absolutely agree with your statement, but I need documentation to show my school district, as they have denied my son an IEP. Thank you! Definitely push for the testing in the school. Guest guest
We went to see Dr. s at the Dan Marino Center in Weston. Dr. s charged $1,700.00 at that time. She was very caring and great to work with. It's a lot of money, but you should have it done every three years. Ity's important for YOU to have the correct diagnosis. Guest guest
Ask at school for a Social Language Developmental Test and Test of Language Development fourth edition with a Speech/Language Specialist. This would prove if she has difficulty in expressive language and needs pragmatic language therapy. The services for ADHD are not the same for Asperger they are wrong. A child has the right to have accurate evaluation of the suspected disability to have an accurate plan specially the type of training a the staff needs to work with an Asperger student. Request by writing to the ESE and Program Specialist assigned to that school. The social training is the best for Asperger students but it needs to be combined with pragmatic therapy to worked. The school psychologist needs to be involved in the evaluation too. The private ones are a good idea but it will not guarantee the school will accept those.
