Guest guest
What kind of curriculum does Bright Horizon's follow? Is it an alternative curriculum or one that they would be getting in a gen ed classroom but in a more conducive environment with extra support? Broward school that can handle behaviors? Guest guest
We use the Unique Learning System...only certain students have to take the FAA...ULS helps to facilitate the assessment. I work with the older kids on the spectrum & we focus mainly on functional life skills... Check out the school's website through the county's main url! >What kind of curriculum does Bright Horizon's follow? Guest guest
Please send me information on Bright Horizons. I'm always looking for good schools to refer parents to, and to help them increase their Mckay scholarships. There are few in Broward which I know of. My address is below. Thanks. Guest guest
since the fam lives near Hollywood, wouldn't the county say the student has to go to The Quest Center which is closer because they basically offer the same? Or what argument can be made that they are not the same? Thank you. > > What kind of curriculum does Bright Horizon's follow? Guest guest
Casablanca Academy is small, private school for children with autism. They offer the DIR/Floortime approach and a 1:1 ratio. The school is excellent! . Guest guest
Ida, First, the district and the IEP committe need to decide on type of placement. Is a center school the appropriate placement for the children? Where are they now? Both Quest and Bright Horizon (and Wingate Oaks) are public center schools with an autism coach on staff. Students with ASD can attend there. Center schools do not have gen ed students, so the children cannot participate in any main streaming. It is a more "restricted" learning environment than the clusters because cluster kids are in the same building as gen ed kids and can participate in activities with gen ed (cafeteria, shows, playground). Only children who cannot handle a cluster should be in a center school. A good thing about center schools is that the staff there are seriously interested in aggressive behaviors. They are better trained, and have a better understanding of behaviors that we typically find amongst staff in clusters. All schools in Broward are to follow the gen ed curriculum unless the child needs a modified one. Modified curricula are usually better suited for students with cognitive deficits. However, center schools seem to be good at implementing lifeskills training. I have never heard of anyone complaining about the curriculum at center schools. Quest is in south Broward (Hollywood) and Bright H is in north Broward ( north of Commercial). Both schools have lots to offer and considered "good" schools. I know Bright H , for ex.has a nice pool. I suggest you go to visit. Ask the autism coach to give you a tour. I have only heard good tings about the Divine Academy in Davie. They start at 5th grade I think. Although this is a private school, it is still a place without gen ed kids, so no mainstreaming possibilities. The Charter school for autism in Hallandale is another possibility for the one with autism. They say on their web page that they recruit kids with behaviors. If I were you, I would use the public schools and spend my money on private therapies (if needed) or extra help in my home in the afternoon or the weekends. Where are the two children now? What kind of placement? Are they related? To: sList Sent: Monday, October 24, 2011 5:10 PMSubject: Re: Re: Broward school that can handle behaviors? Guest guest
We were offered only like 12,000 from Mckay, that still leaves a 20,500 tuition bill; not many can afford that. Guest guest
Dear Hardworking teacher Thank you for your response. Mom has explored and visited Divine academy and LOVED it but they do not take kids with these behaviors. And she is in 4th grade. The same thing with Atlantis Academy. She has been wait listed at the Hialeah charter school since last year. The IEP team already decided the 4th grader needs a more restrictive learning environment than the autism cluster at public school. > >> > >> What kind of curriculum does Bright Horizon's follow?
