Problems Taking URSO

Hi everyone. Just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced bad

side-effects from Urso? I know it is supposed to have little or no

side-effects, but read on. I've been fighting awful fatigue for at

least the past two years. Then, about eight months ago, I

unintentionally missed two doses of my Urso and noticed my fatigue had

eased up. I went without any Urso for about a week; felt much better,

then had some blood work done and my liver enzymes had shot way up

(sorry, I don't remember exactly which enzymes went up). My GI doc

strongly encouraged me to keep taking it, so I did. Well, fast-forward

to about a week ago, and my fatigue had gotten so bad, I was leaving

work early every day to go home and lie down, and even missed a few

days completely. I decided to try going off the Urso again, and guess

what? The fatigue has decreased significantly. I still have a lot of

RUQ pain, and my UC flares up on a regular basis, but with the fatigue

nearly gone, I feel almost human again. I see my liver doctor from

Baylor this Friday, and I'll be very interested to see what he has to

say about it. So, for the time being, no Urso for me.

I am also on URS0 (1,500mg) twice daily for about 3.75 years now. I

have diagnosed PSC (2004) and UC (2004). I have had had no side

effects. I also take a large dose of immuran daily too. I am 43 and

unfortunately i am headed back to MAYO clinic in Rochester, MN for an

ERCP and gallbladder removal (possibly) next week.

I took Urso for about 3 weeks when I was first diganosed in May of

2007 it increased my RUQ pain and also my fatigue. I could not

tolerate the " side effects " so I quit taking it. My doctor at Baylor

All Saints was okay with me not taking it.

Hi ,

I was on actigall back in 1996 when I was first diagnosed with PSC. I

don't remember adverse side effects from the actigall then.

But I discontinued it when I got UC in 1999.

Then I resumed taking Urso after the j-pouch surgeries in 2002-3. I

do remember having EXTREME pain in my j-pouch and when I stopped

taking it, the pain went away very quickly. So my G.I. at the time

took me off it and said " you're never taking that again! "

Hope this helps,

Jarad

I'm surprised to read that some have bad side effects to taking URSO (I think we need a new pole). I've been taking URSO since 1999 and not had any bad side effects. When I once tried stopping (because of the expense of the pills) my liver enzymes started to rise right away. Some have tried to start at a low dosage to relieve side effects, have you tried that?

Hi ;

Unfortunately some people do experience side effects with ursodiol

(actigall). These can include fatigue, see for example:

http://www.medsafe.govt.nz/Profs/Datasheet/a/Actigallcap.htm

look under " Adverse effects " / " Other "

Definitely worth talking with your doctor about!

Best regards,

Dave R.
