Dear group,

I wanted to take a minute and let you all know that last night a donation was made, in the amount of $250.00 (5 miles purchased) to PSC Partners Seeking a Cure! I am so excited about this, but I wanted to share a little bit of what I experienced in case it may help someone else overcome the awkwardness of asking.

I took the paperwork with me, promoting the "Road.." but when it came time for board members to present a requests for donations, I froze. I felt like a deer in headlights, and was grateful that no one knew what I was holding. What kept racing through my brain is how can I ask for a donation for "my" disease? Lions are in the practice of giving money to charities and helping others and I am, after all, a Lion. It has always been my nature to care for others, and have always been uncomfortable with being on the receiving end, and joining the Lions made perfect sense to me...helping others all year long, what better way to stay happy and outside of myself. Yet, here I was wanting/needing to ask for their help...a conflict of interest at best and self serving at worst. Then Quinn's face came to mind, as did a's and little Noah's and 's...that's when I realized that I was selfish if I DID NOT ask for their backing! How silly for me to make myself the center of this issue when there are so many out there with this disease, and loved ones suffering as a result, as well and the courage came.

I must admit, I sheepishly (quietly for my typical boisterous self), briefly explained the cause and asked for them to purchase a mile. When the president said no, I said, OK. But, he hadn't finished. He went on to say that they would not purchase 1 at $50, but 4 or 5. No sooner than it came out of his mouth we had a motion to do so and a second to make it official. When it came time to present it to the general membership, there were no questions asked and there was one motion...two motions and approved before I even knew what had happened. In our club $250.00 is the cap for things like these. If there is anything that requires more they have to take an in depth look at things and go from there. If the cap had been $1000.00, I truly believe, that is what they would have given!

I'm sharing this because it was very difficult to get the courage to ask for money that may some day benefit me, but when I stepped outside of my comfort zone it was well worth it. Maybe there's someone or some group that is just waiting for you to ask, also. Sometimes humans are needing a way to connect and make a difference - give them the opportunity.

Blessings to all,

I looked on the website for this fundraiser, but I did not see anything to print out or anything to help raise money. How could I get involved in this? Road to ville donation
