Guest guest
I just had my 6 month check up for being on the transplant list. My itching is unrelentless even though I take Questran, Hydroxyzine, Benadryl, Zoloft, Zofran and Naltrexone and Ambien CR for sleeping.....so the doctor said he is adding allegra and increasing my dose of Zoloft and said if that doesn't help his last resort is a narcotic patch. Anybody have experience with this patch? Is this going to incapacitate me from working and living...driving????? I think I am so opposed to this just because it sounds horrible. I am under severe stress right now. We just brought in hospice for my mom. She had breast cancer 10 years ago and then was cancer free for 6 years and for the past 4 years it's been in her bone and now it's in her lungs liquifying, in her brain, shoulder, and legs and liver. She is in the dying process now, but she is stubborn. She can't even hold her fork, she opts to finger eat, has no control over body functions.....my sister takes care of her 24/5 and I take care of her 8/2 (some deal I am getting!!!!!!) Tomorrow is my first day with her taking full care of her and I am scared to the begibbers. I don't think I have the physical strength to be able to assist her in standing up, and then repositioning her on the bed. I don't think I can change her diapers(I never was good at it with my two kids...did alot of puking and got them trained really fast) Itching is consuming my thoughts again so I am headed for my faithful toothbrush that serves as the extention to reach mid back. Cindy, I am sorry to hear how much you are suffering and of the stress you are under. I know in the past you have successfully used light treatments for your itching. Are they no longer effective or possible? The other drug that has helped many, including me, rifampin, I think you once reported you couldn't tolerate but it may be worth trying again. The only good thing about your bad situation is you may be so busy with your mother that you won't have time to think about itching. That may be a silver lining, but I'm sure you would prefer to do without the dark clouds instead. Tim R
Guest guest
Thank you Tim. Actually I haven't had time to think about the itching. I was incharge of watching mom today, and 20 minutes into my shift, she passed. I was watching her labored breathing and only took my eyes off her a second to answer the phone (which was my sister asking if she was still ok), and when I looked back, she wasn't breathing. I had to take the oxygen off her to see if I could feel her breath, and did not, then checked for a pulse. Hospice declared her dead at 10:05am....she passed at 9:15. I still do the light treatments but they don't seem to help any more. The rifamphin I have tried on several different occassions to no avail. Guest guest
Cindy, You have my deepest condolences on the passing of your mother. I know this is a very difficult time for you. Try to take care of yourself while you go through the final preparations for your mom.
