Guest guest
We need a safe place for our kids to live when we can't be there anymore. When I heard about the people in WPB holding people with developmental disabilities hostage, I felt the blood drain from my face. I asked myself the same question I've been asking since he was 14, will happen to my kid when I'm gone. I got even more upset when the neighbors got on TV and told the reporters about the abuse that went on in that house. How could they let that happen and not intervene in some way. A few years ago I started a non-profit to make a safe place for our kids to live. A place where their neighbors would be willing to report abuse without waiting for the cameras to show up. There are options available in other places that really work (Camphill Communities for one), just not here in Broward or Palm Beach County. I have been working on this for some time and I know it can be done. We just need to raise enough money to purchase a property that will meet the requirements. We really need to step up our efforts to raise the money and I really need your help. If you can spare a few hours a month to get a fundraiser going, please call my cell phone, 954 234-3008 or drop me an email at Kathy@... You don't have to be an expert at anything. We will put it together like, " Stone Soup. " Kathy Buerosse Independence Heights

Guest guest
Hi Lia: I live in Boca Raton and run Independence Heights from my living room. My vision is to have a community like the Camphill model in Palm Beach County or N Broward. There are some properties on the market that have acreage and could easily be renovated to meet our needs. Many are bank owned and have surprisingly low asking prices. There are many different organizations that make up Camphill and none are exactly alike, but they are all built around the same premise. You can see some of the different communities around the world by visiting their website at http://www.camphill.org/ Kathy > > Kathleen! Where in florida r u?
