Hi ladies.

I am so confused. I am hoping someone can shed some light. For the

past 2 years I have had burning/itching constantly. It feels more like

it is on the inside, but sometimes it is hard to pinpoint exactly where

the irritation is coming from. During sex it is twice as bad. I use

lidocaine gel to get me through it. It also kind of feels like

pressure or my bladder is full. I have taken EVERY yeast and BV

medication out there and in large quantities. Nothing works! I have

seen 7 different gynos. Most of them tell me it is BV and some of them

have told me they think it could be vulvodynia. The last doctor I saw

recommended PT. But, my confusion is due to the positive BV cultures.

Every time I go to the gyno- sometimes twice per month- I test positive

for BV. Never had a negative culture for as long as I can remember.

So, with that being said, could it really be vulvodyna? Because I

thought that to be diagnosed, we would have to have negative vaginal

cultures. I have not started the PT yet because I second guess whether

I have vulvodynia. Please help me!

It sounds like Vulvodynia to me. Your symptoms sound a lot like mine,

actually. It's difficult to pinpoint where the pain is coming from.

Is the tissue of your Vagina and Vulva healthy? That is one thing I

couldn't tell from your post.

If you have a severe bacterial infection, your doctors should be able

to cure it. If you have a few bacteria living in the area, that is all

right and should not hurt you.

I think you need a better doctor to tell the difference. Where do you

live? Sometimes it is worth paying for some travel to get some answers.

I live in the Atlanta, GA area. My tissue seems healthy most of the

time. Sometimes it is nice and pink but alot of the time it seems

red. After sex the vulvar tissue is swollen and puffy and I burn

like crazy when the lidocaine wears off. I hear alot of women talk

about having 'pain'. I don't have 'pain', I have itching and

burning.

So, if I test positive for Gardnerella, that does not always

necessarily mean that I have a Bacterial Infection?

I don't have the fishy odor that is common with BV. I do notice a

yellowy-watery discharge alot of the time (sorry). I always wear a

panty liner.

, what have you been treated with? Has it been successful?

Hi:

I usually test positive for BV. There are other ways for a doctor to determine if you have BV besides the culture that they send out. Does your doctor do a whiff test, PH test of look for clue cells under the microscope? These can all be done in the office while you are there. Do you have an odor?

I don't usually itch from BV. You might try to stop using the panti liners. They make me itch terrible. Also, BV meds are antibiotics. Most of them not only kill off the bad bacteria (Gardnerella), but all the good bacteria that you have in your vagina. Next time you go, ask your doctor (If he looks at the slide) if you have any good bacteria. (Lactobacilli). Good bacteria takes at least two weeks to start to regrow after using BV meds for most people. I almost never have any good bacteria which is probably why I always have BV. Sex does bother me when I have BV.

Don't know which meds you are using for BV. Tindamax is a newer one and it doesn't kill off the good bacteria. I would get a second opinion from another doctor. But, do not use any meds for two weeks before you go or the culture may not be accurate.

Did they ever mention Lichen Sclerosis?

I thought we had a list of VV specialists on this site but now I can't

find it. Chelle, are you there? If you can't find anyone in Atlanta,

drive up to Charlotte to see Libby

http://www.libbyedwardsmd.com/

She will know what to make of your condition. She will probably be

able to tell you if the infection is causing your symptoms, or whether

it is Vulvodynia.

It also surprises me that your doctors can't seem to cure it.
