Do you any of you have experience with this? is so, is this appropriate for my

sons age?

Thank you

Hello,

The listening program is a wonderful thing. Usually, it is done while the child is doing something like fine motor skills. Some children have the headphones on them when they are sleeping. It is for a certain amount of time each day at the same time usually. The children that I treated with it were older, however if they tolerate the headphones it is really good while they are in a hammock type swing also. It is expensive. You may ask her if you can rent it. Some children will not keep the headphones on. Good Luck.

Hello,

I’m bone-conduction certified and have used The Listening Program for a number of years. Love their production quality, the owners, and staff etc. I was very excited about the product as I know children on the spectrum can greatly benefit from auditory stimulation and to have a more affordable version was a dream come true.

Sadly, I have not achieved the same results with the program as I have with Tomatis. In a clinical setting I make adjustments on the fly to suit the need of a child but a take home equipment is highly limited. Also, in my latest training in Belgium they highly discouraged iPod usage and they had their reasons.

I am fine with qualitative results but I have to say I wasn’t seeing what I wanted to see so I stopped recommending the product. I had an 18 year old adult who had multiple seizures on it even with no frequencies (the company gave them a refund, very ethical). I also had an eight year old who had done three rounds of Tomatis with great results and I sent him home with TLP for maintenance and he had adverse effects that didn’t go away so he stopped. Overall, I have only had two children do well on it and for me the cost wasn’t justified.

As a practitioner the most frustrating part of the field of sound therapy is the lack of information available. I’m still trying to figure out what class of children will benefit from sound therapy and how we can eliminate candidates who won’t benefit. I’m searching by expanding my own knowledge in neuroanatomy, audiology etc. and when I know more I’ll be happy to share it.

REGARDING THE CHILD: Two and a half is a fine age to start. As for tolerating the headphones I’ve NEVER had a child not tolerate them, it takes skills, and patience but I get it on the first day. I recommend trying the regular program for a lower cost before investing in the $900 Bone Conduction headphones (you’re really not saving much by ordering them at the same time). When you do go for it, periodically test the headphones to make sure, the Right and Left ear and the BC work property by running them separate from each other. Can’t assume electronics work well, we must test them regularly. The company is very responsible about replacing defective products. Again they’re wonderful to work with.

I hope this information helps. As Autism is still mysterious we can all have different experiences from the same modality.

Best of luck with your decision.

Thank you all for the useful information. Our ST, bought the program and the

equipment, and she suggested renting it to us, so the cost will not be too high.

She tried it a few times during therapy and he was willing to stay with the

headphones for 15 minutes, which was very surprising to me, but then we tried

regular headphones in the car with the DVD and he was fine with it as well.

The thing is that I am afraid it may cause new undesired behavior or regression,

but then we can stop immediately.

After reading more about it, and reading your comments I am leaning towards

giving it a try.

Thanks once again
