Guest guest
Debra, You should call your rheumatologist and explain what's going on. It is possible to have lupus and have a negative ANA -- it's extremely rare, but it is possible. The criteria for diagnosing lupus include the ANA, but aren't limited to it. There's a list of the criteria at _www.lupus.org_ (http://www.lupus.org) (the Lupus Foundation of America's website). The important thing is to get checked out thoroughly. For peace of mind, if anything. Maureen Pratt **************Ideas to please picky eaters. Watch video on AOL Living. Guest guest
I have days like today when I am flaring so bad. (has not been this bad in a long time). But my question is, why does my face swell during a bad flare???? Is this common with fibro? I believe that I have read it is common with Lupus but not fibro. Sometimes I wonder if it is not Lupus. Another question, can you have Lupus and have a blood draw with a Negative ANA??????? I had lab work once before I was diagnosed. The ANA was negative so Lupus was ruled out. (I guess). ?????? Also I have problems with my urine now. I have problems starting my stream and also it seems like some kind of spasms because it will stop and then start again. I have to bear down and push to get all the urine from my bladder sometimes. Also I remember having urinalysis done that showed protein in my urine years ago. I had protein in my urine when I was pregnant with my little boy and they thought I had pre- eclampsia. BUT, they discovered I did not. So why would I have protein in my urine during that pregnancy and even before the pregnancy? Thanks, Debra V. --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage. Guest guest
All I can answer for you, Debra, is about the protein in the urine. has suffered from kidney problems ever since she was 3 weeks old (so I have been dealing with it for over 28 years and she has another difficult kidney problem going on now) and if protein is in the urine, it is usually indicative of a kidney problem. I hope that this helps. A lot of years ago, I had that problem, too, but when I was pregnant with the urologist I had to see for my kidneys, surgically dilated my urethra so that I could empty my bladder easier and better. Urine leftover in the bladder can cause infections in the urinary tract and kidneys. Guest guest
Thanks . hugs, Debra V. wrote: seems like my face swells too. My legs and ankles at times also. Try not to do too much caffiene as that doesn't help with bladder isssues. I hope your flare eases soon. I have no idea if the swelling is common with fibro - perhaps you need to have another complete blood panel done to make sure that you don't also now have lupus? That would be my first step. Second, as far as the urine goes....I have had my share of UTIs, bladder infections, cystitis, etc. over the years and it sounds almost as though you may have something like that going on, hon. I would go to the doctor and tell them you think you have one - are you hurting anywhere around your lower back area (and thinking it's just due to the flare??). Until you can get there, drink lots of water and cranberry juice (natural flusher) *if* you can drink cranberry juice! As far as the protein, gosh, hon, I don't know. I DO know that I had a high level of protein in mine prior to being dx'd (and I don't think it was related) **but** my doctor had me do a 24 hr catch where I basically peed in a jug over the course of 24 hrs (it stayed in the frig) and then they sent it off to be analyzed. It all came back okay. I say, and this is just me, go see your PCP today if possible (we have one that is open 7 days a week). If you can't go because it's the weekend, here are a few things to try OTC for the urine issue - one is a product called AZO standard - it turns your pee colors but makes it bearable when you have to go. There is also an OTC test that will tell you if you have a urine infection (I just remembered that!) and then you can make the decision to go to a doc-in-the-box (one of those 7 day clinics) or wait for your main doctor. Feel better and please keep us posted! I know our bodies tend to find the darndest things to get sick with and we are always wondering - is it the disease? is it something else? Guest guest
The only thing I can say is the same for me is that it takes me a while to be able to urinate. Then the stream is piddly and takes a while. I haven't been able to leave a urine sample for several years now. If I go to the ER, they cath me to get the sample. Don't have any answers for the other stuff. Maybe you need blood work checked again? Take care. Jeanne in WI I have days like today when I am flaring so bad. (has not been this bad in a long time). Guest guest
Thanks Debi. I have not had it tested in a long time. I suppose when I was pregnant it had something to do with the protein. But I just happened to think back from years ago when a doctor found protein in my urine and asked " why " but never investigated. Debi, Ihope you are doing ok. I have not read much here in so long. I have not kept up. I sure hope everything is ok on your side of the fence. love and hugs, Debra V.
