US Autism & Asperger Association to Provide Live Streaming of World Conference

Salt Lake City, UT, October 24, 2011 – The US Autism & Asperger Association (USAAA) will live stream the annual USAAA World Conference for the second straight year on USAAA TV (www.usautism.org/tv). The broadcast will begin Thursday evening, 7 pm PST, October 27, 2011 and continue through Sunday, October 30, 2011. Over thirty of the world's leading Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) experts will discuss evidence-based therapies as well as experiences, perspectives, and challenges never before presented to the public. The conference will be hosted at the Holiday Inn Sea-Tac Hotel in Seattle, Washington.

"Last year's broadcast was a ground-breaking event for the autism community worldwide," said Lawrence P. Kaplan, PhD, CEO of USAAA. "Over 34,000 viewers watched the first ever live stream of an autism/Asperger conference in its entirety. We are excited to broadcast our annual event for the second straight year to the world."

The four-day conference will highlight Eustacia Cutler, playwright and author. Eustacia is perhaps best known as the mother of Dr. Temple Grandin, who is one of the most accomplished and well-known adults with autism in the world. Eustacia is a graduate of Harvard University with a degree in English literature. She has used her experiences with autism to write television productions on NBC.

Tim Page, author of Parallel Play, will discuss his autobiographical account of "Growing up with Undiagnosed Asperger's" at the conference. Page won the Pulitzer Prize for criticism in 1997 for his writings about music in The Washington Post. Page is a professor at both the Thornton School of Music and the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism at the University of Southern California. Page was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome in 2000.

Among the thirty notable national speakers presenting are Dr. Shore, world-renowned lecturer, professor at Adelphi University and self-advocate; Elaine Hall, author, actor, and creator of the critically-acclaimed theater arts program, The Miracle Project; Diane Isaacs, film & television producer; Raun K. Kaufman, an international speaker, writer, teacher and self-advocate and the subject of an award-winning NBC television movie, Son-Rise: A Miracle of Love; JaLynn Prince, former press secretary to a U.S. congressman, radio announcer, theater critic, producer and director for television and theater.

Participants are attending the conference from thirty-three U.S. states and seven countries. "There is nothing that replaces the overall experience of actually attending the event," said Dr. Kaplan. "For those parents, educators, practitioners, students, individuals on the autism spectrum and everyone dedicated to improving the life of individuals with autism spectrum disorders who cannot attend the conference in person in Seattle, we are proud to be able to offer the live streamed event at no charge."
