Hi all,

I have an update to share with the group. I had an ERCP last week

(12/07/2007) at St.Luke's in Houston, TX. The doctor found a mass of

cells in the common bile duct, with some smaller stricturing in other

smaller ducts. The cells are *worrisome* for colangiocarcinoma. I

met with a liver disease specialist yesterday (Tuesday, 12/11/2007)

and heard more not so good news. Apparently, these two doctors are

meeting with a committee tomorrow (12/13/2007) to decide on the best

course of action. My options are: a)resect the bile duct with the

mass and hope the remainder of the biliary tree and liver do not

develop colangiocarcinoma and B) perform a liver

transplant. ...ugh... It was not the news I was hoping for

yesterday.

I was only diagnosed a month ago and this seems to be moving so

quickly now. I guess I thought I had this all under control

emotionally and am finding it hard to concentrate on work or much

else at the moment. There is some good news, though!!!

We are expecting baby #4 tomorrow. Jen is scheduled for delivery

around 12:30 PM and we are so excited about having our first boy.

So, even though we are in the midst of some very challenging news, we

are also mindful and thankful for the blessings we have in life.

I hope this message finds all of you well, and in good spirits.

There's so much stress around the holidays, I just hope we can all

see the joys around us everyday.

Thanks for listening (reading). We'll keep you posted. :)

Steve,

I am very sorry you have to go through all

this. It is something that happens, and all of us here know that it can happen.

I hope it is not CCA as the doctors suspect right now. If it is, it might be a

good thing that it is detected now and not later. In a later stage the

transplant option might have fallen through as well. The Mayo clinic has a

special transplant program for people with CCA.

I hope everything will go great tomorrow

and wish you luck with number 4. This is some emotional roller coaster you are

riding.

Regards,

Chaim Boermeester, Israel

Our prayers are with you.

has been in treatment for CCa for the last 7 months. His prognosis is

really good, only

because they caught it so early. Did they tell you how extensive they think this

is? It is

REALLY good for you if they are talking transplant. It means you have a good

chance for a

cure.

Statistically, there's very little success from resection for patients with PSC,

because the

cancer comes back in other, affected areas. Transplant, by itself, holds about a

20% survival

rate. Transplant after aggressive radiation/chemo raises the odds to 80%, making

it well

worth the trouble, but it is trouble.

It's not been a pleasant road, but we are making it. There have been immense

blessings and

it has changed us. Feel free to contact us directly. We are happy to help any

way we can.

God bless you and yours,

, wife of (psc 94, CCa 07, waiting for tx)
