Our 8 year old son has over the last few weeks become much more aggressive -

biting and attacking people ( adults and kids ) for no apparent reason. Could

this be a yeast problem ? We just moved to a house with a pool so we were

wondering if the chemicals could be responsible even though the pool has been

converted to a salt system -there is still chlorine .

Can anyone recommend a good ABA therapist experienced in these issues ?

We are in Delray. He has limited speech so more of a VB type approach is what we

prefer.

My 8 year old was extremely aggressive (to everyone since he was 2 1/2 years old), until we put him on Risperdal. We had ABA therapists come to our house 5 days per week, for a couple of years. It helped some, but in the end we had to resort to medicine. I resisted as long as I could, but he was getting bigger, and inflicting more serious damage. He was even attacking me in the car (while in a seatbelt), when I was driving. The interior of my car was chewed up. It was really bad. Have you considered a very small dosage, to take the edge off the unwanted behaviors?

Hi, I had the same thing. My son used top pinch and hit and kick and at age 7.5 we had to go with Risperdal. I was covered in black and blue marks and even with behavioral therapy, and lots of it, we still needed meds for impulse control. He is 10 and still on a very small dose. We once took him off and it was horrible. A small dose can help tremendously. I know this is a very tough decision. Good luck with this.

My son who is in his twenties has had aggression problems since he was about 8

years of age. We didn't put him on any prescribed meds until he was about 16

and the aggression was severe and he was too big for me to control. He has

taken Risperdal and Depakote since that time. His doctor says that she believes

it is caused by an over abundance of testosterone in his system. There are

tests for this and ways to control the levels of testosterone, but I didn't

think the side effects were worth risking, so we are staying with the Risp. and

Depakote for now.

Hello,

My son is 15 now, but had many aggressive behaviors throughout the years off and

on. It could start for so many different reasons. I have worked with an ABA

group called " Reaching Potentials, they are located in Boca. The number for the

office is . Several of the therapists are certified. I had worked

on intensive early intervention from the age of 3 to about 7. Then slowly

dwindled down. I still call them on occasion for behaviors that " pop up " . In

my opinion they are the best at what they do. I wish you luck.

Regards,

My son is 9 years old and he is using Risperdal for four years. The neurologist tried ADHD drugs to substitute the Risperdal and it was living hell, the only think that work on the hiperactivity and agression was the Risperdal, low dose 0.25 mg 2 times a day at the beginning.
