Guest guest
In my experience the best place for your child at this age is Baudhuin Preschool at Nova Southeastern University. It is farther for you to go but worth it. The program includes significant emphasis on speech, language and social communication. I highly recommend it. My child attended Baudhuin for two years from the age of 3 to the age of 5. elementary They focus of everyone there is on speech/language and social development. I had a hard time getting my diagnosis from the neurologist at first as well. In my opinion it is in your best interest to get it. I think they are doing you an injustice by holding off. The fact that my neurologist didn't give my son that diagnosis early on, we missed out on services that he could have been receiving through the county like ABA therapy. Good Luck. You can email me if you want more information. > > > My child who will be 3 years old in a few months has been diagnosed with a significant expressive speech and language impairment and may be on the spectrum (early evaluations by a neurologist and psycholgist state that at this point her symptoms do not qualify her to be on spectrum but ultimately she may be). She is being evaluated by Broward County Schools shortly. I am aware generally of the different broward programs, e.g., place, complex place, pepper, am/pm, etc.., but I am trying to find out where are the best " place " programs in coral springs or parkland or even if place is the proper program or if their is another program where there is a significant emphasis on speech and language and social communication. Any help would be greatly appreciated, since this is all so completely overwhelming. > > > > >
Guest guest
I beg to differ...do yourself and your child a favor and don't go straight to Baudhuin. Try your homeschool Place/ Complex Place first, and if she doesn't do well there, if she needs more structure...Baudhuin should really be a last resort. They do not prepare the kids for mainstreaming, and it has to be the most restrictive environment ever. Not every child will be able to go into regular K after preschool but they all certainly deserve a chance to do so.The diagnosis is another issue. It helps with services and it might help with insurance. The truth is that when it comes to special education and services, it shouldn't matter which dx you have as long as the determined deficits were being properly addressed, but this looks good on paper, and many services might be denied or reduced because a dx is not in place.Good luck, these decisions are so hard, but I wish I had listened to the people telling me to go slowly and test the waters first. Big hug!PS: Dr. Tuchman is a good doc for dx, I wouldn't follow up with him as his bedside manners are horrendous, but he will give you a dx to help out with getting services, if there's a chance of her being on the spectrum.Sent via BlackBerry from T-MobileSender: sList Date: Sat, 29 Oct 2011 03:50:45 -0000To: <sList >ReplyTo: sList Subject: New 2 Group-Need Advice Re: Place Program/Similiar Programs- Coral Sprs/Parkland In my experience the best place for your child at this age is Baudhuin Preschool at Nova Southeastern University.
