Guest guest
This is going to sound strange but do you have Fibromyalgia type symptoms, too? I am asking because you had a good response to antibiotics and this made me think you could possibly have Lyme Disease. Fibromyalgia mimics Lyme Disease - the symptoms are very similar. A somewhat common symptom of Lyme (and/or a coinfection called Bartonella) is Vulvodynia. Just a thought. It may be worth getting tested by a reliable lab for Lyme Disease by a Lyme Literate physician to rule it out. Dr. Metzger did a very good presentation at the International Lyme and Associated Disease annual conference last month about vulvodynia and Lyme. She is a well known doctor that treats vulvodynia and Lyme Disease. Unfortunately I have both. I hope you figure it out and resolve your pain. Guest guest
Strange that you would ask! Actually, I have had various aches & pains (neck, back, shoulders, arms, legs, hands, etc.) I have had to see a chiropractor at least once a week to control the pain for about 5 years. When I went on the Amoxicillin, the aches & pains completely vanished and have yet to return! I haven't had to see my chiropractor for 6 or 7 weeks. I have never been able to go longer than a week. But, if this were from Lyme disease, would it really go away that quickly? Honestly, it's so strange, even my chiropractor called to make sure that everything was ok, because he knows that I've never been able to miss a week. I know that it's not the placebo effect, as I never would have thought taking Amoxicillin for Bronchitis would make my pain go away or help my itching/burning. > > > > I have had itching/burning for almost 2 yrs. now. Guest guest
Lyme is a weird animal. Some folks experience a relief of symptoms when they take antibiotics and others experience a " die off " or " herxheimer " reaction and feel worse. Both can be indication that the antibiotics are killing the germs. Most people eventually do get sicker before they get better due to the toxin release as the germs are killed. Some lucky people never experience the " herx " . I have heard many stories where folks have had Fibromyalgia, MS, Lupus, ALS, Chronic Fatigue, etc and then finally got their Lyme diagnosis and recalled these types of reactions to antibiotics when treating something else. The tricky thing is to get tested by a reputable lab and get a doctor who can read the result. The lab that is most frequently used by good Lyme Dr's is Igenex but there are a couple more that are good, too. The President of my state Lyme association got copies of her medical records and discovered she had EIGHT positive Lyme tests over the years with various doctors who failed to make the correct diagnosis. I would highly recommend a good Lyme test - this may be the answer to many of your aches and pains. If you need the name of a doctor in your area you can PM me and I can try to help. Some good links for Lyme research: www.ilads.org www.lymenet.org http://www.publichealthalert.org/ PM me with any questions! Guest guest
Thanks for the info. Molly. Something new for me to research :-( From what little I have read, it does sound as though I should check into it. I went to the gyno. today for a culture, just to be sure that I wasn't dealing with yeast from the Amoxicillin. They called tonight saying that I have Gardnerella. Any suggestions for treatments that work effectively for that without making the skin more irritated? Thanks, Kendee > > > > > > > > I have had itching/burning for almost 2 yrs. now. Guest guest
Hi: I take Tindamax for Gardnerella. (BV) It's a pill which doesn't further irritate the tissue. I also start taking Nystatin (for yeast) at the same time since I usually get yeast after treatment for Gardnerella. What did they give you to use? Tindamax doesn't kill off the good bacteria like other BV treatments, it only kills off the bad. Sherri -------------- Original message -------------- > Thanks for the info. Molly. Guest guest
I've only had a BV twice. The first time I was given a topical suppostory med (I think it was a topical antibiotic) but it gave me a fierce yeast infection and the two Diflucan that my OB/GYN gave me did virtually nothing for it. The second time around - which was just recently - I researched it and found that it is also treated with Flagyl (I think 500 mg 2 x per day for two weeks). I also found that it was treated with Amoxy in the 70's and I happened to have Amoxy for my Lyme so I went back on it and resolved the BV. Of course, I shared this with my Dr. and he was OK with it. What I typically do when treating anything is do whatever is least likely to cause a bad yeast infection. The oral antibiotics were the best for me but I also use probiotics and Diflucan. I think Boric Acid will treat some BV's but I only use it occassionally because I find it to be a little gritty and that causes some irritation. But what doesn't?????? I hope you can work this all out. It's a tough balancing act. Feel free to PM me if you have questions. > > > > > > > > > > I have had itching/burning for almost 2 yrs. now. Guest guest
Hmmm....my aches and pains are back too. Maybe I will see my GP about trying Amoxy for the BV and aches/pains and possibly a referral to a Lyme specialist. You said that I could PM you with any questions. I don't know what PM is! :-( Could I possibly email you? Kendee > > I've only had a BV twice. Guest guest
Sherri, They gave me Metrogel. I still haven't been brave enough to use it though! LOL I will have to look up Tindamax.
