Guest guest
I want to thank those who have responded already and to encourage more people to comment further. It is through these comments that I am helping to educate myself. My child was evaluated by Broward County on Thursday. They would not say anything about placement until they scored the tests they gave her. I will know more on Nov. 17th. At that time, they told me they will tell me what my " options " are. From what I understand, if she qualifies for a place program, I dont have any options and they tell me where she will go- is that true or not? Also, I have been told that because I live north of commercial blvd., she cannot go to Baudhuin. If that is something that can change if I fight I would like to know that too (just so I know what my options are). My next question is, even if she does qualify for some kind of preschool type program, will they also provide seperate speech, behavior and/or any other kind of therapy like physical/occupational therapy or if they give you a school placement that is it and you are on your own for everything else???? > > ok, Baudhuin has over 150 preschoolers with autism. And last I heard there were 18 different classrooms. Generally, and compared with place or complex place, you will find the best of the best staff at Baudhuin. The problem may be that you are not in their area and may not be able to place her there. If they tell you that, do not give up. This is the best place ever. I know many of their staff members. Staff members who do not perform adequately are usually asked to take a hike, and new people are hired. > Yes, it is a self contained place, meaning that the kids there cannot mainstream. However, I think that at this point in her life she is very young and mainstream is not all that important yet. Find other places for her, during weekends, to meet with typical developing kids. For now, go visit Baudhuin. You owe it to yourself to just see the place. > > Ht >
