Guest guest
I was wondering because I have observed people talking nice to one another in the first place if I could ask questions from time to time here. Autism is a complex topic, I have it, but there are so many perceptions I need to choose one or a few forums to figure things out from time to time. I work with media, businesses, conduct public relations and my avid interest in life that I look forward to each day is facilitated employment for those with autism and other developmental disabilities. Relevant topics to facilitated employment are: 1. Day Employment Programs 2. Sheltered Workshops. 3. Customized Employment. 4. Disability & Ability - Choice & Inclusion (If someone wants to be mainstreamed or not.) Topics I do not want to get involved in not because they are not valid but because people get hurt feelings. 1. Mercury, vaccines and pollution relating to autism. 2. Autism gift vs. disability. ---------------------------------------------------- Here is my observation and question should it be allowed. Q. A young lady with HFA phoned me the other week looking for a job. She attends college. If someone can attend college and functions well in the mainstream should they benefit from autism and developmental disability facilitated employment like candle making or should they be offered to apply to be a support worker helping those whom are unable to mainstream? I heard of others with autism attending colleges, for me I work with a behaviorist and like always it's just to much change for me. Some with the autism are very rigid, I don't like doing things I am not used to and that is my psychology. I go certain places everyday and don't typically go outside of familiar. I've even declined speaking arrangements for instance so it's not being lazy. There are those with autism whom won't even cross busy streets for instance. Should the public support sponsored employment for everyone with an ASD or those whom are needing transitional outreach and more so sponsored employment? Temple Grandin is a professor for instance and does allot of things people in employment programs do not do. What do you think. I am asking because I am succeeding in employment advocacy and am formulating policy as it expands. What does this part of the autism community think? I am developing as well transitional outreach in which by means of awareness and public relations networking I've prepared the methodology with the pre-existing frameworks of programs for sponsored inclusions for transitional improvements. Local agencies are on board and it is the goal to expand it in other areas as well. Young
