Guest guest
Hello, My son with PDD NOS keeps taking off his clothes and walking around naked around the house or outside of the home. Does anyone has any ideas on what to do with his behavior? Thanks for your reply! Ivette.
Guest guest
Clothes may be irritating, smell of detergent or dryer sheets. The tags, the material. Guest guest
Could it be a sensory thing? My son once had and urge to wear " soft " clothes. Apparently the texture of the fabric didn't feel good on his skin. Another time, the labels were " poking " at him. Maybe letting your son pick out which clothes he wants to wear for the day would help. If you recently started using a new detergent, stopped using a fabric softener, or are adding a product that you didn't use before, it may be the cause of his problem. If it is none of these and simply OCD related, maybe giving him (lemon balm oil) would help. It is from the mint family, and doesn't usually interact poorly with prescribed meds would help. If you consult your doctor, he might o.k. the use of lithium orotate 5mg which you can get at GNC or on line. I have also heard that Inositol with a little food before bedtime, can help with a lot of our kid's behaviors, including OCD behaviors. Unfortunately this can't be used if your child is taking Depakote/Stavzor. I think about all the different issues my son has gone through and we solved and know that he will always be a work in progress. I hope you won't let this issue cause you a lot of stress. Just keep in mind - This too shall pass. Guest guest
http://www.child-autism-parent-cafe.com/autism-brushing-protocol.html This is sensory overload. You might try some brushing. This really helps desensitize the kids and hopefully he won't feel the need to remove his clothes. When my son was little we had all kinds of issues trying to keep clothes, hats, shoes etc. on him. I did a lot of sensory work with him and he gradually stopped doing this - OT with sensory integration, cranial sacral, chiropractic, the brushing... Guest guest
How old is your son? My daughter (she's almost 10 now)used to do this sometimes. She just liked being naked. I would just calmly explain to her that she had to put her clothes back on and usually have to dress her myself. She eventually outgrew it, probably by age 5 or so. The only remaining related behavior is that she hates wearing shoes and takes them off whenever she can get away with it. If I were you, I wouldn't worry about it too much (assuming he's still fairly young). There are much worse behaviors to have to deal with! > > Hello, > > My son with PDD NOS keeps taking off his clothes and walking around naked around the house or outside of the home. Guest guest
We had the same problem with our son so he wears hi-top Converse and I double tie them so he can't get them off. You can go to Converse.com and get some really cool Chucks and you can even design your own. Staying one step ahead of our kiddos is a full-time job. Re: Clothes Off How old is your son?
