Guest guest
Does anyone know if stopping prednisone after 4 years could make my allergies reappear? I use to have problems with allergies taking allegra nearly everyday. But for quite a few years now I haven't needed to take anything, I thought my allergies have gone. But now my allergies or some other sinus condition has been back full force for at least 5 weeks, just about the time I stopped taking prednisone, paxil, amitriptiline. Does anyone have any thoughts?? Judy/Wi --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage.
Guest guest
My opinion is that yes, the prednisone could have been keeping your allergies in check. Guest guest
Judy, Since prednisone is often used for allergies, I would say possibly so. Also, if you have been taking it for that length of time, you cannot just " stop " taking it, you have to be weaned off of it to avoid a severe adrenal reaction. I would check with your doctor to see if there is something else you can take for allergies. I know that I take mucinex, benedryl, singular (for my allergies and asthma), 2 diff nasal sprays and something new called lodrane (I was taking zyrtec, then tavist d, but the doc just switched me to lodrane). Anyhow, check with your doctor. You may need a meds tweak and 4 yrs on prednisone cannot be good...... Guest guest
It makes sense to me. Way back when they used to treat my allergies with prednisone; and my sinus infections not too many years ago. Guest guest
Simply put, yes. Prednisone could have helped keep your allergies at bay while you were on it. I'd make an appointment with your doc and see if there is something else you can try. Do you suffer from asthma? I do, and am currently fighting off a cold and bronchitis. If you have asthma you might ask about taking Advair along with albuterol. My alergies induce my asthma and when I take the Advair I rarely have any allergy problems. If you take Advair, rinse your mouth with WATER only after you use it. Don't use mouthwash immediately after using it. Hope this helps. --------------------------------- Looking for last minute shopping deals? Find them fast with Yahoo! Search.
